I take back negativity towards @Corby2 All the other insiders, and TnT lovers, left when the obvious became too much for them. Corby is still here, probably against his better judegement. The program as we know it is not in good standing (to use a KF term). I'm not sure the people in charge know how to fix it and we can't sit around and wait for a bunch of HS sophomores to come rescue the Brands Bros.
I don't know who can fix the program, but for the first time in my lifetime it's not Gable or the Brands Bros.
On his first good shot, he had the leg shelved and he let him to the edge. Then time ran out
. That bummed me out big time, Ayala typically always finishes when he shelves the leg. Maybe he gave up shelving it because he lost confidence?

Sadly, the Bull excelled at doing just that. He would clean up at B10s and then miss the boat at NCAAs. Waiting to score in the 3rd or OT is a recipe for disaster.

And sadly none of them did. In fact none of them looked all that good tonight. Loved that Block was so pissed at the end, but we've got to work harder early on.
We lost to a team that got beat by Rutgers; says much more about our season than Minnesota's in my humble opinion...

I used to love watching Iowa wrestling every time it was televised down here. Now, knowing that it's going to be boring as f**k, I wait until the dual recording is complete and then fast forward through most matches (all but PK and Mikey tonight) until somebody has a TD. With the style our men are putting on the floor this year I'm surprised any of our fans make the trip to CHA let alone Columbus. B-O-R-I-N-G!! What a horrible product we're trying to sell our fanbase!!
I would like to say, I to am one of those clowns. Like Feldman, I have been irrationally high on Kueter. His talent and athleticism coming into college was absolutely elite...I'll add, being high on Kueter's potential this year doesn't make someone a clown. Anonymously bashing a guy on a message board you've never met and would never speak to in that manner in clownish though.

The norm sure seems to be "keep it close and try to pull the rabbit out of the hat in the 3rd period.
It makes you feel like the coaching staff is trying to ensure we have absolutely zero expectations come NCAAs. How many of our starters are sure fire AAs barring injuries? 2? 2 and a possible? 3 max? Sure to God no more than 3.

I predict Mikey, PK, and Angelo get good seeds come NCAAs and the other six wrestlers having some challenges. Predicting four AAs: Mikey (2nd), Angelo (3rd), PK (5th) and Drake (7th). If Gabe goes 197 I think he'll make NCAAs, but don't think he can make AA giving up that much weight.

He shouldn't be on the mat if he's injured. Can't expect him to be ready in March if we don't let him heal.

So Corby, are you saying that if we continue wrestling in March like we're wreslting now you'll get off the Brands' bus? From my foxhole it seems like a few of you guys don't appear to see what many of us are seeing. At times I'm thinking some of the reason could be because a few of you might have your careers attached to the Brands brothers keeping their current positions, which I totally understand. But surely even you must admit that we're just not looking very well. We barely show signs of a pulse most nights and rarealy outside of Mikey do we see any offense. It's just getting old and some of us older guys - and I'm a bit older than you fellas - really miss the good old days and really long for some f***ing offense. We look horrible and the future doesn't look any better than the present aside from the recruits we hope to get in the out years.
Corby, if we're healthy but still not trying to score, I don't see how that helps improve the program. Also, if staying healthy would improve us then why do we apparently - based on what people hear from their insiders - have injured guys wrestling in these duals. From an insider perspective is BK injured? Is Dean? Thanks for anything you can provide.
Ok, so only march matters. Iowa has shown that they can produce in March. 9-5 with losses to a horrible Minnesota team and getting crunched by PSU and tOSU not a good look. We like our guys ,we need to stay focused and work hard, we lost 7-3 look forward to Sunday. Tom is getting stale. This team may be a better tournament team then dual team. Tom is getting compared to coaches like Eggum and Manning that should make want to quit. IMO TNT will be back and suffering wil continue. I have no skin in this game i just want to see good wrestling. Iowa is not a product that is watchable anymore. I do not like PSU but they score and dominate. This forum can complain , beg and have polls truth is we are still a small minority.

We have VERY little offense -- Total takedowns 4
We had three wrestlers who had a takedown-- VV (1), Caliendo (2), Dean P (1). The other 7 wrestlers had NONE.
No nearfall-- Only VV and Caliendo had riding time-- and Caliendo had over 2 mins--poor mat awareness or poor coaching or both--get bonus points!
We dont take many committed shots. BK was down and didn't take his first shot until 6 seconds left.
We very well may be hurt, dinged up, and have stuff going on that's none of our business, but it seems like that is the case year after year in recent times!
We have more drama year to year than most other teams.
Despite what Tom says about liking his guys, and he has the right guys in the room, He is delusional. On the best wrestling day of these guys life they are not beating PSU, and some other teams.
Whatever message and coaching techniques this staff is communicating, it's not getting through.
Where am I wrong ??

I did the same. Watched it this morning while everyone was asleep. Glad I didn’t take time away from family last night to watch real time. It’s not a good product being put on the mat. March will not be a disappointment because I’ve entered the “I don’t care” phase of my relationship with Iowa wrestling.
Well, maybe I still care a little bit.
By the way, March is only one month away. How much better, healthier, offensive do we expect the Hawks to get in one month?
I’m 62 and have been riding this train since the mid eighties and I hope March goes amazingly well but I also can’t unsee the product that has been on display this year no matter what happens in March.
I think the biggest thing is the change in level of kids coming out of high school. Where TnT could take kids and improve fundamentals, elite recruits already have that down. Scrambling has evolved and this staff can't seem to elevate our guys enough in that area or create offenses to get past that. Love the Brands, but I see no fixes and its hard to watch.

What I've observed watching college wrestling for 40 years is when some very successful seniors get knocked out of the winner's bracket at Nattys, and their dream is dashed, they pack it in...HEW.
There are exceptions, like Schwab and TJ in 2000???.
But Iowa's best guys are all seniors.
How will Ayala, PK, and Mikey react if that happens?
BTW: Miley will be wrestling Saturday night.

Unfortunately, a somewhat more aggressive Ayala being unable to finish two (or three) good low singles on Davino is the poster child of Iowa's continued wrestling future under the Brands.
It's just not good enough to "be punctual." It's just not good enough to "not quit near the end." Wrestlers need to be developed and conditioned to seamlessly execute techniques.
Iowa has Caliendo and who else with a high attack rate who and can finish? And Mikey will be gone come April (as will the lesser Ayala and Kennedy). It's not looking good. May be looking at fewer than 4 takedowns against tOSU, OkSt, and PSU next year.

All this talk about let’s see what happens in March ignores the fact that there are going to be some brutal seeds because of the lackluster regular season. A couple of the guys who were looked at as high AA guys coming into the year are .500. Which means we are going to have to beat some real tough guys throughout the tournament to make it happen.

I think he’s a guy that can teach offensive techniques to make some of Minny’s wrestlers better. Still he’s only just an assistant, but I sure wish he was on our team.

Well after they beat you there was an immediate swell of support here to hire Kemdawg.

It wasn't just Spencer though. We had lineups in 2020 and 2021 that would compete with anyone currently. The failure has been the lack of building on the successful runs.
