I’m an Iowa fan - and Kirk has used that recipe for years. Usually doesn’t work- BUT- sometimes it does.
Make the game ugly.

Oh, they'll make the game ugly alright. As far as playing complementary football and understanding how both sides of the football and the clock fit into the big picture of winning a game...well, let's just say that's not a priority of Riley's.

This isn't a game we were supposed to win coming into the year. We have nothing to lose here unless we get completely *** whooped like last year.
I'm not sure we have a chance of winning but you never know. I DO think we have a decent chance at keeping it surprisingly close. Hopefully we can head into the 4th only down a score or 10 at most then it's anyone's ballgame. Our first half against Wisconsin wasn't great but there were flashes of success. Capitalize on momentum when you get it this game and we have a shot.
Can't hold anything back defensively. Attack and put their offense on the defensive.
win special teams game.
On offense...well I'm at a loss but Lee needs to get rid of it or throw it away and we need to keep a hb or rb or te in to help pass block a lot. Receivers need to catch it better than we have all year, they need a breakout game with no drops, why not Saturday?
When the run is working, run. If you throw on 3rd and short it had better be damn creative PA.

Shock the world baby. Happens in college football every year. Why not us?

I don't see us being able to generate pressure and sack Barrett. Instead, I think our DB's need to play ultra-aggressive and jump routes to force interceptions. If they miss, so be it. Swing for the fences on D.

Also going to need to win the special teams game. Big returns.

ok, let's set aside the Riley talk and focus on this week's game. This is not a prediction thread.
Nobody is unbeatable. And yes, they are better than we are and will most likely win. But it is not hopeless.
Assuming we bring our A game and they have an off night we can win.
Outside of the obvious (turnovers, penalties, etc...) what are our keys to a win? What is our best game plan for putting us in a position to pull the upset?

Riley takes over playcalling and magically transforms into TO.

Bribing the catering staff to give them all food poisoning. Not just, "hey, my stomach feels kinda funny" food poisoning, but the type of food poisoning where they are $hitting their pants uncontrollably.

that would give new meaning to alternative uniforms. Wonder if their hotel has complimentary "chocolates" waiting on their pillows when they check in?

I think things have to go well from the get-go in order for the Huskers to win Saturday. The Huskers need to march down the field on their initial drive. Once they get inside the Buckeyes 20 yard line, no matter how well it went in practice, Langs needs to avoid a call where Lee has to throw a little flare pass out into the flat. I think the whole Big Ten has seen the tape and so the Buckeyes corners will be ready. Lee has to play the smartest game of his life. So no pick sixes. Receivers need to hold onto the ball. The D has to maintain intensity throughout the game. No matador defense after a Husker score. Pressure on Barrett and an interception or two would be helpful. Knocking Barrett out of the game would be a plus. The last time the Huskers beat them is when David made that remarkable fumble recovery on the play Braxton Miller got hurt. From that point forward the Buckeys were playing scared. That needs to happen Saturday night.

Urban was on his year sabbatical from coaching and was the color commentator for that game.

OSU fan here. Weather could be a huge factor in this game. Although we have made strides in our passing game, I'm still not convinced JT can complete a pass more than 10-15 yards downfield. The weather may dictate a short passing game plan for both teams. If your corners are able to play man coverage I would crowd the box and force JT to beat you. with his arm. I think both Morgan and Spielman could cause some problems for our secondary. One of our starting cornerbacks will miss the first half of the game due to a targeting call last week. I was impressed with Lee last week against Wisconsin. He certainly can make all the throws but.he better get rid of the ball quickly against our front seven While I expect us to win, I don't expect a blowout. 34-17 .

There's at least a couple ways to look at this. 1. Make up an offensive system or gameplan that has a snowball's chance of being worked on this week (or season) in game prep. 2. What will we likely attempt, and what has to happen for that to be successful.

1. I'd like to see us operate out of the pistol. If we're behind and throwing as much as Langsdorf wants to throw (that's a lot of throwing), just quit with the play action, it takes away a small but super valuable amount of time for the qb to make a read and a decision. Get rid of the TE's, bring McNitt in as fullback/h-back. Have some audibles ready if OhSU runs off-balanced Dline formations. 3rd and 2, or 3rd and short is an automatic rushing down. But this doesn't matter, it's not gonna happen.

2. I see us doing our usual DL playbook. Passing slightly more than rushing until, we are far enough behind to start predominantly throwing, or are so far ahead that we predominantly run the ball. It's OhSU, they'll likely be ahead early and we'll be throwing the ball. We need high completion percentage, no turnovers on our part, at least a couple turnovers on their part.

Good topic, I was thinking about this today too.

Offensively, I'm hoping Langs will spread out the defense, 3 WR sets and run the ball. Three wide should keep 8 out of the box, which should make it easier for the OL to know who they're supposed to block. 2 TEs or 1 TE and a FB will pull 8 or even 9 within 10 yards of the ball at the snap, probably not an ideal situation for the OL. Langs is going have to resist the urge to chase one-on-one match-ups with WRs on the outside, 50/50 balls are not 50/50 vs. OSU corners. When they pass (not more than 25 times please), bring out the full arsenal of picks, rubs and crossing patterns. Lee is going to have to get rid of the ball quickly, checkdowns are ok, throwing it away is ok. Don't force it, don't hold the ball.

Defensively it's much easier. Tackle and make plays on 3rd down.
3 yard gains turning into 12 and 12 yards turning into 30 are killers. Tackle at the point of attack.
Getting off the field on third down is huge (duh, right). Pass break-ups, TFL, sacks. Someone has to step up on 3rd down and make a play. Wisconsin was 6/11 on 3rd down. over 50% on 3rd down isn't going to cut it.

If NIU can stroll into Lincoln and beat Nebraska, then it’s at least possible Nebraska can beat Ohio State in Lincoln.

To do it? Play aggressive enough defense to win, by a crooked number, the turnover battle. Just like NIU did.
I think just the opposite. I wouldn't blitz all night. I think we are better off dropping eight and let the their qb try and find an opening.

I would bring up my safeties to not only help with the run game but so that they are harder to block by the wideouts. Wisky basically left our corners alone on running plays and made sure their wideouts got to our safeties. You can guarantee that OSU will try to mimic Wisky in the run game.

On offense we have to get the ball downfield. I don't see us running well until we loosen them up, hopefully, with a few deeper pass plays. Indiana showed OSU's secondary could be a bit suspect so we might get a few big plays.
