Should I be concerned that the Huskers won't even win enough games to be bowl eligible after watching these first two games against very pedestrian opponents?

Here is how I see it. Ohio State and Wisky are certain losses. Iowa and Maryland are likely losses. That puts us at five losses. I think we beat NIU, Minny, Illinois, and Indiana. That puts us at five wins. I see Northwestern and Purdue as toss ups. We need one of those to go to a bowl. I think we lose to Purdue but beat NW.

6-6

The way the fans traveled to Colorado, any bowl would be excited to see that crowd. I think we can pull it off.

It’s not the end of the world. Expectations are always too high

You were 4-8 last year and this year probably 6-6 to 8-4 with near certainty

That’s progress

Only 3 teams have ever started a season ranked after a 4-8 season

Nebraska, Alabama in like 2000 or 2001 and one other team in the 60’s

Agree with this. Getting to 6 is going to be tough. I wouldn't expect much more than that unless something drastically changes.

Yes but not sure you're going to travel with 6-6 vs hoping to beat cu. Just saying. Especially if the game isn't somewhere warm in the winter.

Anyone who has been involved in football for an extended period of time would be concerned after this team’s performance the last two games. But then we can get into the conversation of what were people’s expectations going into year two....

I doubt we go to a bowl game this year after last 2 weeks performances. We are not good.

We will make a bowl. Im thinking 7 wins. This team will grow and get better during the year. They did last year. I have to think we will start to gel better as the year goes on.

Thought that was happening last year at the end of the season, then we regressed. So if we start gelling again half way through this season, do we go through an off-season regression again?

The team mentally fell apart in the fourth quarter. Not sure if we can recover from that and make a bowl. This week will tell us a lot. If the game is close I don't see us making a bowl. It will be three close games against teams that are not as good as the remaining teams on our schedule. If we come out and play well and win comfortably then that is something to build on. However, not sure I see 6 wins on the schedule after what I have seen the first two weeks.

Hard to say. my guess is yes, at least a little bit. We arent to the point where we can just reload.

How many new starters are we starting on the Oline this year, what about next year? That could be a reason why the run game has struggled a bit this year. Is the line a reason why the play calling seems a little more conservative this year? Maybe, maybe not.

Another point I keep seeing. "This was a SIGNATURE GAME" Is this team, who is coming off of back to back 4-8 seasons, replacing several starters on offense (4 very key players) READY for a signature game from a mental standpoint? Do we have the senior leadership that can prevent the team from reverting to the old mindset when Colorado got a spark.

I know I have been anti negative (wont call it positive) this morning, but I AM disappointed in the loss. I feel we had that one, and then let it slip away. I just am not ready to throw in the towel yet.

I think it's a rough damn business for HCSF. Our OLine simply can't block anybody which essentially gives the opponent the whole middle of the field. So, we're forced to desperately trying to get something at the edges.....it's pretty much the only choice we have. The opponent knows that.

Oh, sure we keep trying to run the ball but just can't get it done. We'll just have to hope and pray the OLine makes a big step upwards soon. But no matter how much we need it now, it may take awhile........

I dunno. There is too much talk from the fans, media, players, and coaches about this team. Too much talk and not enough on the field performance. Crazy stupid expectations, too much chasing after recruiting rankings and not enough on just playing the actual game. This is where I thought HCSF and staff would improve us from the past. Bo couldn't manage games to save his life, Riley just didn't care. Now we have a staff that is all talk and no action.

That was one of the worst performances in one half of Husker football I can remember. I am sure there are worst scorelines and such, but the way this team gave up, rolled over and died and the way the staff coached with fear in their hearts and fear in their eyes has really stunned me. After the game, HCSF sounded like a whipped dog talking about his OT play calling and playing not to lose.

If this program is going to turn around, it is time for a gut check from the top guy first.

No, don't worry about things you can't control (unless you have $ on it, then I'd be VERY concerned).
