We have sold our house and looking to move to OKC area, and will need to be in south side. We have been looking at Mustang, Moore and even Norman.

We have kids that will be in 1st and 5th, so schools are important (and a big reason we are moving).

So...recommendations? House prices would be in the $250-275k preferably. We’ve been working with a realtor we like but thought I’d seek some opinions here.

Mustang and Moore have better schools. Norman is run by a bunch of SJW pinheads.

I grew up in Moore, but know Mustang is a better area to live these days imo.

I'd look in Mustang if I were you.

That’s where we are leaning, but have lots to still figure out. Our after school routine will be changing, as we won’t have close friends to help out. We’ve never had to figure out what to do with kids until we get off work. We timed this though so we would have the summer to figure it all out.

You might also look at Blanchard or Tuttle, two really safe communities to raise your children.

I live in Moore currently. Schools are a mixed bag. Plaza Towers and Briarwood are the newest since being rebuilt after the tornadoes and have built in storm shelters. But apparently still have lower grading scores than Oakridge and Wayland Bonds (both A+). Southlake is also a newer school and probably has the storm shelters and I know their a good school, just not sure on the grade.

Housing is available from the tens of thousands to multi millions.

19th street has heart attack in a bowl with just about every known fast food/casual dining place known to man.

Warren theaters is one of, if not, the nicest theaters in the metro.

I think, from what I hear, AC is correct. Tuttle, Blanchard, and Mustang are really growing communities.

They named a school after Wayland Bonds? He was my neighbor and his wife my 2nd grade teacher, who was pretty hot when I was 8.

Bonds was my junior high principal. Kind of freaked me out when the last time he saw me he knew who I was.

One of the Romines boys is superintendent of the schools.

I wouldn't pigeon hole myself to being south, if it's commute you're worried about. Okc is really easy to navigate. Mustang would be a good spot, but I'd look at Yukon as well. Moore is perfectly fine @mseabolt can probably give you some pointers there. Norman has good schools and mediocre schools it all depends on where you are, so don't let AC's bias detract you, but I'd say you could bring Edmond into play just as easily, if you're considering Norman.

Here's a link to school ratings. Easily searchable.

Also, the Mustang school district is pretty big and stretches outside of city limits. I grew up right off I40, didn't have a Mustang address and still was in the Mustang school district.

Get off our front lawn!

I would say moving the the OKC part of the Moore school district (think Westmoore) isn't a bad idea. Quick access to everything. Nice homes, neighborhoods.

Well, since my commute is south of OKC, I need to be on the south side. Mustang puts me a little over an hour...so does Moore, but Edmond would add way too much.

We are going to go look at a few more in Mustang and a couple in Moore this weekend.

Yeh. I’m looking at the OKC part of Moore and Mustang. I’d like to be fairly close to I44, so we have a few neighborhoods picked out on both the Moore area and Mustang.

Ahhh I thought you were saying south Okc. I really would consider Moore. AC leaving raised the avaregage IQ. You might just balance out seabolt's and then Moore would become a poor man's Midwest city.

Someone mentioned Blanchard and Newcastle so let me add Tuttle. Small town, close to things. Good schools.

Oakdale school district for that age. Come on out. Hefner and east of I 35. We walk to football and baseball practice. It’s freaking Mayberry out here.

You can get on 35 south in 5 mins and commute south.

Duncan. So, Mustang/Moore puts me at an hour or just a little more based on my trips up so far. My wife’s office is near the airport in OKC. Im hopeful to be out of Duncan in the next year or so...but I like what I do, alot and make good enough money that I can’t justify leaving, but ready to be near OKC.

I live in Moore and work in the city and my commute is almost an hour.:(
Haha. Yeh, when I’m in Houston I can have hour long commutes between a couple of my offices that are just 15 miles apart.

Basically, I like my job, but ready to live close to okc again and want to get our kids in better schools. And with my wife officing in OKC now it just makes sense.

Chickasha is terrible. Awful schools...we started there and couldn’t find a single neighborhood worth living in.

Here’s a simple test. Try walking the aisles of the area Wal-Mart to get a feel for the sorts of people living in the area. So if you check out the Chickasha Wal-Mart with this in mind, you could easily conclude that all the pics on “the people of Wal-Mart” website came from the Chickasha store.

It’s striking the amount of WT and hillbillies down there. I live 30 miles away and it is amazing how different the demographics are between the two locales.

To be fair, the Duncan WM is trash. We actually are fairly excited at the prospects of living close to areas that have more than WMs! It’s worth my commute.

Well I would beg to differ with your opinion. I am a banker here and would have some insight and locations for you to check out. We just redid our hospital and all the schools are in fine shape. Administration issues are being addressed.

I have been in many Wal-Mart's across our great state. The people in each seem like the same set of hundred people. I think they bus them(us) from site to site.
I agree with this. I still think Chickasha is not great.

I dunno. Just a observation on my part, but I disagree about the people in all Wal-Marts being the same. OKC, like any city, has it’s different ethnic and socio-economic areas and I can promise you, in most cases the folks shopping at each Wal-Mart are very reflective of that. Why wouldn’t they be?

Chickasha, in my experience, is a classic, if not extreme, example of this. This doesn’t mean that there are not well-to-do people in Chickasha. Obviously there are.

I'm pretty sure there are some insurance agents on here, but I have been using Trustpoint Insurance for the last few years and really like them. They're a broker, so they'll shop around for the best coverage for the best price. Great customer service too.

Are you really commuting 70 miles each way?
It’s actually about 65 right at an hour or even a bit less since traffic is negligible.

It’s certainly not ideal, but not living in Duncan will be a huge bonus. Once I get tired of the commute I suppose I’ll look for something in OKC area. I like what I do now (also...I don’t have to go into office every single day so that helps).

If anyone wants to hire me in OKC area I’d be good with that too!
