Oklahoma-Army, 2018....."A Game for the Ages"

Putting it on pay-per-view in a game that attracted the 4th largest crowd ever to see an OU home game....and a game that wasn't decided until overtime....against a storied Army team that is resurrecting its once proud legacy.
What "genius" made that decision, especially with Kansas on the schedule ?

Just a guess. Had the game been in weeks 1 through 3, it would have been on one of the networks. But being week 4, all those conference TV contracts are in effect. No room for OU - Army.

"It's all about the fans" is a myth. Those TV contracts are responsible for 11:00 am kicks when it's 95 degrees outside.

Nope... it's all about the $$$.

That said, that Army game was truly an unforgettable classic.

That was the most incredible experience I have ever had at a sporting event. I have to give it up to the OU athletic department because they did everything one could think of to not only respect our great Army and their team but also engage the OU fans to the point where we cheered EVERYTHING Army except the actual plays on the field.

The respect our players showed to Army after the game was very moving and hats off to them.

I echo the sentiments...an incredible gameday experience. I would love to hear comments from the Army attendees. It was an electric atmosphere combined with an incredible electronic media and special event marketing effort. The noise level when Mann intercepted that pass was jet engine loud

I doubt that a conference game will ever be a PPV. They have one each year. It was between UCLA and Army. Army was the obvious choice. FAU, except for being the first game of the season, would have been a much better choice over Army. $40 to watch the game is not costly compared to the expense of buying tickets and going to Norman. There’s only one a year for crying out loud.

Game for the ages? Lets see what Army does the rest of the way before we use Resurrected. I know one thing, our Defense has not risen from the dead yet.

I agree with almost everything said except for the comments around the forth largest crowd. I'm assuming it meant see it live, like really being at the stadium. Here is something that bothers me, it's petty but it sticks in my stomach. When they display the attendance on the jumbo at every game I just laugh because it's not true. "This makes ?????? consecutive sellouts yadda yadda yadda he says" Sellouts and attendance are big time different. I'm in sec 103 and have been for years. There has been three to seven empty seats around me year after year (which I try to buy but they won't keep my donors fee the same as my other four. They want 500 a seat and I'm in at 100 so they sell them to stubhub for less money it makes no sense). There has been many rows empty in the eastside upper deck. I'm sure people do as I've done for others and that's make sure their ticket is scanned so it looks good for their status for bowl and texas tickets. That's all Joe C is concerned about is the ticket money. I like a packed out load atmosphere. Ok I'm done, so for me the Army game was really entertaining much too close for me heart. But most recently there are two games that stick out to me as being better. 2008 #2-Ttech vs #5 OU, OU wins 65-21 jump around plays and the place is nuts. 2012 against osu we win in OT 51 - 48 Clay shakes off two or three cowboys to score.

I have to go with the 2014 Sugar Bowl win over #3 Alabama 45-31 as a better “game for the ages”, and it was nothing like an arena football game. The Army game was entertaining but not anywhere near as exciting as a #10 Oklahoma beating a Nick Saban #3 team. But then that’s just me. Army hasn’t ever been too revelant in my life time......considering I was born in 1946 and wasn’t watching college football in the ‘40s.

The Alabama upset in the Sugar Bowl was perhaps OU's biggest bowl upset and featured what I consider to be the greatest bowl performance by an OU quarterback (Trevor Knight).
Two others I recall (or know about) were two Orange Bowl wins: the 2001 upset of Florida State, 13-2, and the 1954 upset of Maryland, 7-0.
Interestingly, OU's defense shut out both opponents, with only an intentional safety being scored by FSU....and only a single touchdown being scored by OU in each game.

I think the attendance # is accurate. I think the compensate for unsold tickets ( upper east side south end deck...visitors) by overselling the student section and counting every body on the sidelines. Empty season tickets are obviously counted.
