Bottom end is fun

125-Love seeing that Troy.
133-Jax is going to be so fun and 133 is so stacked.
141- if you initiate O with Serg then you’re probably getting stuck.
149-Swid is looking much better but he has to keep pushing.
157- Landon vs Teague went how you’d expect considering how well they know each other.
165- Dee is so dynamic but he’s got to work on that tank and start creating more distance.

Did Landon take a committed shot of his own? He was either being very cautious or very respectful in that match. I'm fine with it either way since it was against Teague, but let's hope he gets back to his normal aggression next time out.

Facundo was also very cautious. Normally he has no problem generating attacks but can't always finish. This time out he didn't shoot really he just controlled the center. It earned a win against a tough opponent, so again I won't complain since it was out of the norm.

KD hasn't been aggressive the last few matches. Next dual is UNI against a guy he should bonus. I hope he decides to send it like he did early in the season.

Zack wrestler well against an elite opponent. No complaints there.

The kid Jax teched (Gage Walker) is no slouch. That was the first time he's been teched in his career thus far. In fact, he's only been majored one other time - last year against Spratley 10-1.

Casey wrestled well and wrestled smart but he started playing prevent defense way too early. Good win against a tough opponent though.

I agree with others here about Dee. I think he needs to test himself by opening up his offense and seeing how his lungs hold up.

Merrill did Merrill things. Attention 197s, don't go under this guy.

Spratley and Vega looked great. No notes.

Good win. Go Pokes!

The first 3 matches were fantastic with great wrestling from our side. The last 7 matches were average at best with Dee being below average.
Dee was below his ability, but he was absolutely not below average. Conway is a top 25 guy.

I think we all just want to see him light up the scoreboard like we know he’s capable of.

My worry is that he gets bit in Cleveland by keeping a match close.

Is it just a confidence thing for him?

Haha, I’m aware. But, Vega, RobeeDoo, Blaze, Davino, Seidel, HS Senior Jax and Duke don’t seem to have a resume of razor thin matches.

*Im not down on Dee, he’s a winner. It’s just my opinion that he is probably the most talented guy of the bunch and he isn’t dominating like the rest of the bunch.

This group of freshmen (Dee was #2 overall consensus) is unreal.

Checkout this dominance ranking put out on BEG Wrestling.

I wish I wouldn’t have dissected that chart.

Dee is actually the least dominant, undefeated freshman.

It would be worth rolling through the matchups.
Orange colored glasses? He is actually the least dominant, undefeated wrestler of any class except Ryan Crookham(4-0).

Dee was below his ability, but he was absolutely not below average. Conway is a top 25 guy.
Also, a little orangey. I've watch Dee clock kids for years. The difference between #2 and top 15 to 25 is night and day. Unless there is a physical match-up problem (to tall, short, round...) Dee should clock all of those lower ranked guys. He should at least try.

All he has to do for an example of how he should approach the match is by what his green, freshman teammate at 133 does earlier in the match.

Off the point of the match and Dee in general but, I think the worst thing that happened to wrestling after the arrival of the Gable style of wrestling (De-Fence) is the utter fear many offensively gifted wrestlers seem to have of giving up a single takedown (ala Daton Fix).

I’ll take these NCAA finals over all those barn-burner SV finals of the last 20 years:

I think most people, myself included, would like to see him open it up a bit.
That's not even my major concern. I just want to see him stop playing the edge and hanging out on his knees during restart when his opponent is at the line ready to wrestle. He makes it look like he is gassed and stalling even if he isn't. Refs at NCAA are gonna ding him for that.

Yeah I mean I think we are saying the same thing in a different way. Opening it up and being more aggressive would be in place of what you are mentioning.

Troy wrestled real good scoring in takedowns, escape and back points . Impressive. Jax is unbelievably dominant. You shoot on Sergio's legs you better take him fast because if you don't you will likely get cradled and pinned especially if you don't get his leg up. Swiderski got the takedown at the end of the 1st period, but I wish he would have put the match a way with a takedown but he got himself a couple of stalling calls instead. Still he beat a tough true freshman who beat Tagen last weekend. Landon with a solid win over Travis. 1 takedown, escape and rode Teague out the whole second period. Solid win. With all the talent that Dee has he should score more than 1 takedown against his opponent. He almost gave up a takedown towards the end of the 3rd period and he would have been behind by 1. He won but not impressive. Facundo won 2 to 1 on a stalling point but needs to get a takedown or 2 in his matches. Ryder no offense and in the 3rd period gives up a takedown to lose the match. Very tough opponent though. Cody wins 2 to 0 gets an escape and rides out the 3rd period for the win. Doucet wins 5 to 1 and actually got a takedown. We need offensive development with the last 5 wrestlers. We got 2 takedowns in the last 5 matches. This seems to be a pattern. However, we did pound Missouri.
Outside the first three matches, everyone else is wrestling not to lose🤷🏼

Maybe. I'm not saying I like that style, but so far he's an undefeated true freshman and ranked #2 in the nation. He turned it up against Caliendo when he needed to.
It looks to me like he is intentionally slowing down and controlling the pace of his matches. Maybe to make sure he doesn't run out of gas?
Or making sure he doesn’t get caught. I don’t like the style either. Jax almost got caught in the cyclone classic.

Didn’t he fair pretty good in freestyle against MM? I think he could do it, of course I may be a little biased.
No, it really wasn’t. Dee is very, very stingy.

I was so surprised to see that slick by that would’ve worked had Dee not been edge Wrestling.

To my point of concern, people will figure that out. But, I trust there is a plan and this staff knows way more than we can even understand.

Good dual for us. Nearly blanked them. Not sure what's up with 49-hwt in terms of hanging on ties forever but hey wins are wins. And the first three matches were super fun to watch.

I think sometimes we have to remind ourselves we are wrestling 7 freshmen. While that is exciting it is also going to lead to uneven performances. Development is not always linear. These guys are going to be up and down.

I think the fact we started 7 freshmen on the road against a solid program like Mizzou, are a tad disappointed and still kicked the crap out of them is a good sign.

Lots of room to get better but that is what young guys do.

6 freshmen - 133, 141, 157, 165, 184, 197. 4 upperclassmen - 125, 149, 174, Hwt. 149-hwt were all pretty low on the offense attempts. I agree though its a good problem to have to be disappointed after a 30-3 or whatever victory over a solid opponent.

Dee is conserving energy imo. Unfortunately a lot of times hard work beats talent when talent doesnt work hard. I promise you the coaches are getting in his rear daily.

I agree with most the assessments Ive read on here. I dont like what I saw out of Swiderski. I thought Casey was coming out of that "early lead and fade hard" type of matches but he was right back to it Friday night. If he doesnt fix that he'll go 2-2 at NCAAs.

I dont understand our lack of committed shots. Yes D1 wrestling is hard and everyone is good. But not even trying for the most part? For an example lets use KD. He fully commits to one shot against Mizzou and gets a nice td. Why not more? There wasnt really much difference in the position they were in when he went for it than positions they had been in several times already. Guess what? You want to score points, you have to accept the risk and go for it. Man the mental side of wrestling is crazy.

That being said the overall the team looks good and we have a solid shot at second place with a floor of 7 AAs imo.

I’m no ferrous expert
Iron Man Laundry GIF
I’m more interest in the Ferric oxidation state of iron, I mean I can take or leave your Ferrous state molecules. I relate primarily to the red of Ferric Oxide as opposed to the green of the Ferrous verity and don’t get me started as to the advantages of Ferric Chloride over the Ferrous in sewage treatment. You can keep your Ferrous oxidation state as far as I'm concerned.
