Sums up the RU offensive philosophy. I would add that they run that mesh play because they saw some other team run it successfully, not understanding why it works or what's needed to make it work. Duff is succeeding despite the offensive philosophy. The misuse of Raymond is just offensive malpractice.
Good point. That’s been my complaint of Schiano 2.0. It’s felt old and unoriginal. Following what other teams are doing without any consideration of other factors for that success.

Hey, that team looked good, and they got a bunch of transfers from a lower level school so let’s do that. Without realizing that success had more to do with one of the top QB transfers or it was 5th year grown men transfers from a top program. Not just that the transfers were from a lower level school Or like that TO to ice the kicker in the Illinois game. That was such a 1990’s move.

But Schiano is the only person who knows Rutgers and can succeed here. No one else can do it.
Speaking only for myself: when we re-hired GS, I didn't think he was the only coach who could succeed here, but (after initially not being crazy about bringing him back) I came around because I did think out of the realistic options, he was the most likely to get us back to at least a baseline level of competence - the high floor argument, essentially. I was just so starved for us to look like a real team - not to mention have a coach who seemed like he actually wanted to be here, a vibe I never got from Ash. (And fine, maybe I overly weighed some good memories from my undergrad years, which overlapped with some of 1.0's best teams, including '06, though he drove me crazy sometimes back then too.)

As recently as going into last season, I was feeling pretty good about my thought process back then, and the program's overall direction now, which would probably be enough for some to label me a GS dead-ender. Needless to say....that's all over. Bring on whoever. And if they can bring in a slew of transfers like Ok State's new coach did with them, all the better.

Texas did this thing last night where they put a second, stronger looking stout running back in the backfield in a short yardage situation. He was lined up behind the quarterback but in front of the tailback. He seemed to be very effective in blocking for short yardage runs. Rutgers should look into this new found approach
