I believe just Kyle Dake. Yianni won as a true freshman and sophomore but Olympic redshirted in 2020 and 2021. But neither Dake or Yianni took a greyshirt before enrolling at Cornell.I’ll ask, how many nonredshirts have 4 titles?
Didn’t know that, I thought it was like a rule at Cornell that you greyshirted.I believe just Kyle Dake. Yianni won as a true freshman and sophomore but Olympic redshirted in 2020 and 2021. But neither Dake or Yianni took a greyshirt before enrolling at Cornell.
Well first Jax will take an R or O shirt at some point. To question: Pat Smith won first 3 no Rshirt, he only took one due to OSU not allowed to compete Sr year. I'd say that made #4 harder not easier.I’ll ask, how many nonredshirts have 4 titles?
I watched his matches so far and I still hope that he decides to finish his senior year of high school and comes to Stillwater next year. He struggled some in the semi's, just not sharp.Well first Jax will take an R or O shirt at some point. In what way did he struggle? He never seemed remotely in danger to me.I watched his matches so far and I still hope that he decides to finish his senior year of high school and comes to Stillwater next year. He struggled some in the semi's, just not sharp.
To be fair of the seven wrestlers who have won as true freshmen since 2010, five of them (Ferrari, Cox, Dake, Martin, Lee) were 19 like Forrest and one was 18 (Diakomihalis). Only Mark Hall was older as a true freshman.I think coming in as a HS senior and winning an NCAA title on only one semester of college experience would be a more impressive feat than being a four-timer.
We'll have to agree to disagree. Jax is just playing with these guys. In my view there was no struggling other than Corbin struggling to stay off his back the whole match and the refs forgetting to count all the neutral danger back points. Should have been a tech.I watched his matches so far and I still hope that he decides to finish his senior year of high school and comes to Stillwater next year. I still contend he’s a senior medalist. It’s still baffling to me that the challenge system was broken at the sports highest level event. We'll have to agree to disagree. Jax just placed 5th in the entire world. He easily won his bracket at the U.S. Open, teching Nashon Garrett, a former national champ and beating Davina head to head who is ranked #2 and undefeated at 133 in College who also beat Daton Fix who was in Jax's bracket. Blaze is ranked #5 and undefeated at 133 in college and Jax teched Gross, a former national champ, in the finals who bonused Blaze to get there. Jax just beat Vito head to head 2 straight at Final X and Vito is aworld champion and 2 time NCAA champ. Jax is also the reigning U23 World Champion. Do you seriously think he should be wrestling high school kids right now? If he wants to finish his high school season for social reasons that's one thing, but as far as making an argument that he is not ready to win a college title this year isn't credible to me. In today's day and age if they're ready, you wrestle them now. There are too many unknowns in the future to redshirt these guys.
He's 19 years old as well.
I agree, he deserved to be top 3 in the world.I still contend he’s a senior medalist. It’s still baffling to me that the challenge system was broken at the sports highest level event.
He did all that at the age of 18 as well. The only way I would not want him to compete for OSU this year is if he has grown out of 133 or he just really wants to finish up with his high school. We'll have to agree to disagree. Well against the 6th rated wrestler at 138 he did not get a takedown in the 1st period. Not scoring in the 1st period would surprise most people. He is 1 of the best wrestlers in the country and he was not clean and quick on his offense. Was he in danger of losing, no. Should he have been cleaner and more dominant, yes. I thought that was a c- match for Jax. My comments are very tied to Jax being unbelievable great wrestler. Also, we are not winning a team championship this year. Next year we could have a slight chance with Landon, Sergio and Dee jumping levels, along with Jax. We would have Troy, Alex, Casey or Tagen at 149. Then young wrestlers Merrill and Ryder where a light bulb could come on any time. Maybe Ross will be ready at HWT. We only lose Doucet from this years team and so next year we should be much better as a team. That is my thoughts. I also have watched a couple of Penn. St duals which were frightening. In what way did he struggle? He never seemed remotely in danger to me.
If he enrolls at OSU his eligibility clock starts however he could use redshirt.Question: If Jax attends OSU this semester, when does his eligibility start? Will this year count against him if he doesn't participate? If so, it's a no-brainer. If he can attend OSU tis semester, and his clock doesn't start, it becomes a different question.
You get 4 post seasons to compete. OS, RS and/or GS are available. So, you have 7 years to Wrestle 4.Question: If Jax attends OSU this semester, when does his eligibility start? Yup, those are pretty much given out these days.+ Medshirt
He will jump levels once in the room training and competing full time D1 level folkstyle. Plus we need him for the ISU and Iowa duals. All that if he is our best guy and can win the 133 spot.I watched his matches so far and I still hope that he decides to finish his senior year of high school and comes to Stillwater next year. If you watch his world championship matches you'll see a very different Jax. It's a whole different level of focus, preparation and controlled wrestling. He doesn't need to be at that level against these kids. He wrestled very sloppy against them. These high school matches don't at all show what level he can wrestle at.Well against the 6th rated wrestler at 138 he did not get a takedown in the 1st period. Well sure but its OU so we could win without. We'll probably have him for the OU dual.
I didn't see this match, but think judging an athlete/ wrestler by a singe match is short sighted. Alex Derringer struggled against Missouri his senior year in the dual - ridden an entire period and struggled to get a take down. Alex had a great career finishing 3,1,1,1 and hodge trophy as everyone here knows. If you based your opinion on that match, you wound not think Alex was elite.Well against the 6th rated wrestler at 138 he did not get a takedown in the 1st period. My understanding is that he has until January 16th to enroll in school if he’s going to.
It’s 4 post seasons now…period. Is the 5 year thing dead? Or if it’s not, will kids that redshirt before the rule change still be able to get 5 years?
Side note: a Folk style match/practice between Vega and Jax would be fun to watch.

From interviews it is obvious that Jax thinks that he struggled Tuesday. I don't think he would give himself a C-. He should not make his decision based on that tournament, but he is not in a good place with his wrestling right now. He would have 2 months to get on course which of course he could but I still hope he chooses redshirt or gray shirt. It is his decision and the staff's decision. If he redshirts he needs to get in 5 competitions but that would hurt Ramirez or Figueroa. Again, not my decision obviously, whatever is decided I hope it works out well for us.In what way did he struggle? He never seemed remotely in danger to me.
Worth noting there’s rumors about the flu or something running around Bishop McCourt. That’s allegedly why the Bassets didn’t wrestle so Jax could very well have been sick or still recovering. From interviews it is obvious that Jax thinks that he struggled Tuesday. It would take a terrible draw for either of our current options to catch a blank.I’m torn, I don’t want Jax for only half a season but without him we likely get 0 points at 133 at the ncaa tournament which could be the difference in getting a team trophy. I wouldn’t mind using him as a hired gun in a redshirt and putting him in for his 5 ”free dates” against Iowa, Iowa State, Missouri, Northern Iowa and Va Tech
