If you were an elite athlete, would you attend the Rio Olympic Games?

With the summer Olympics just around the corner and the city of Rio and Brazil having so many problems, what would you do if the choice was yours?

Nope, far too many negatives surrounding this Olympics and the location. Sounding like it is a real cesspool of filth down there and a major health hazard to anyone attending. I don't blame any of these athletes who are backing out so far. Then you also have the ordeal with the Russian track team that takes away a lot of the competition. Oh, yes, almost forgot the item known as terrorists that might find this Olympics a great target for them. Yeah, sure, I would love to be in that mess down there.

Nah. I've talked to a dude online who is a cop working around Rio and the whole place is basically a craphole.

When I was a young warrior, I thought I was bullet proof. So heck yes I would go to Rio or anywhere else.

What an awful mistake and heads should roll for picking one of the most dangerous cities in the World to have the Olympics. Just yesterday there was a news article quoting the Rio police stating that they cannot protect people attending the Olympics. Watch the movie City of God, great movie and only skims the surface of the Rio problems.

If I was an athlete I'd just sandbag everyone.. Tell other competitors how awful the place is.. how they are killing off other Archers left and right.. Get everyone to strike the Olympics..

Then go in there on my own and take the Gold.

You people are wussies. I can perhaps understand an NBA star not wanting to go. But, imo, anyone in a sport where the Olympics is its pinnacle event choosing not to go is a cowardly fool. Of course I'd go.

Of course! However, brasil is a swamp of depravity. They chose such a horrible place, like they usually do.

Between late August and May, yes, I agree. It's summer and it's a sports topic.

Ha Ha, I looked through the thread again. (It was my duty as one of the post police.) It can stay.... (Or at least be sure it stays on the paddock and doesn't drift to obscurity for a while.:cop::eek:kay:)(If my opinion matters...Dang...)

If I had the opportunity to represent my country in the olympics, I'd jump at it. Who knows if the amateur athletes will have another shot?

NBC just announced that two new demonstration sports, projectile vomiting and explosive diarrhea, will be added to this year's Olympics slate.

After much deliberation, I too have decided to withdraw from the Olympics in Rio this year.
