The Omaha Streetcar is dumb as hell and is an example of cronyism through and through. Personal rapid transit (PRT) is about a million times better and would have rather experimented with that. If a more technically proven thing was needed, then some kind of luxury shuttle service could have run along the same route at much cheaper cost.

musk built a machine that can tunnel way underground, and make sub ways.....they should do that along dodge and 72nd...make no stops at mcdonalds or malls and have the national guard secure it for training. no loitering or harrasments...really you could sell a id card for it to keep out any clowns if they get out of line.

The bike lanes downtown are a pain in the *** and not once have I seen a bicycle using them. Not once. Sorry Litespeed.
I’ve lived in this area for quite some time, and I regularly walk around Candlewood Lake. A close friend of mine has lived even longer in the nearby neighborhood by Burke. Linden Park and Linden Estates, which are close by, are widely regarded as some of the most desirable neighborhoods in town.
Describing the “whole area as trash” is simply inaccurate and unfair. I can say from firsthand experience that this is a great community, and I’ve never once felt unsafe here. Comments like that only spread unnecessary fear based on one isolated incident involving an individual acting irrationally in public, something that, unfortunately, can happen anywhere, whether in Bennington, Elkhorn, or Gretna.
To put things in perspective, there have been only two major incidents in this vicinity over the past couple of years: yesterday’s situation and the tragic case involving the elderly couple at the retirement home across from Menards. Spreading exaggerated or misleading claims only harms the reputation of a community many of us are proud to call home.

Bikers should never be in the street. Ride on a path or the sidewalk. I get it, "they have rights" and stuff...but when a car hits you, the car is fine. The biker is not.

I live really close to there..by the new high school to be more exact...and the irony is, the guy i'm referencing in my post is a realtor now and he has a huge bedsheet sign hanging on a fence right by hy vee advertising a home he has listed. Haha

Yeah you can go eff yourself with that line of thinking. Omaha is about as backwards as you can get with people who have that mindset. I've been hit twice, and the first time I WAS on a sidewalk. How bout, and hear me out, ya just pay attention and try not to hit me...and maybe leave the house, oh I don't know, 30 seconds earlier so you can have that whole 30 seconds in the bank in case you do run across somebody on a bike.
I realized that saying ‘that whole area’ might have been overstating it so I later clarified it to a smaller area. Candlewood is nice and I’ve walked that neighborhood countless times. And Linden Park and Linden Estates are nice too, but they’re not really 120th and Dodge are they?
It is not about the lack of paying attention it is about the fact that if a bike and car collide. The car wins.

No, that is something that dork JohnRossEwung would do with his super-literal bit. I did say between 114th and 120th especially the northern side of the street. Which is not Candlewood, Linden Estates, Pepperwood, Shadow Ridge, The Plantation, Skyline Ridge, Bluewater Lake, etc

..in all seriousness though, its not possible to not hit the street once and a while if yer a serious rider...sometimes ya need that pavement. 95% of my riding does not rake place on the street anymore...but there is that 5% where i need it to get to where imma headed. Try not to hit me, please.

Linden Park and Linden Estates go from 132nd and Dodge to 144th. I consider that all the same "area", but there is not a lot of living spots right on 120th and Dodge... Candlewood would be one of the closest neighborhoods IMO
I think most people would consider it the same area.
Once you are no longer a kid and your main form or transportation is no longer a bike, I think it is safe to say that the areas you mentioned are the same.

The McDonald's closes before 8, and armed security guards at every convenience store in certain areas of North O. If I can't even get my damn McChicken at a reasonable time because it's too dangerous, then I have no desire to frequent the area.

I do see older people pedaling them from time to time, because they actually bought them for exercise. But good luck ever spotting a kid/teenager/20-something using anything other than the throttle. Great workout for the thumb, I suppose.
