I mean almost every single rock song that has come out since then is better. Sure there are some exceptions but damn.

That seems about right. 50s I'd maybe rate a bit higher as Chuck Berry, The Killer, Little Richard, Buddy Holly, Elvis, et al were all damn good. Just not enough of them, imo.

2010+ just isn't enough emphasis on the musicality. Either way overboard distortion and feedback or basically no guitars at all. The music scene is so splintered and too reliant on marketability. Whoever invented the drum machine should be shot. I would opine less inspiration from blues which is where most classic and enduring rock music received its inspiration. You go 3+ generations away from the blues and you don't have much in common with the basic structure, rhythm and feeling of the building blocks of good rock music. Just my opinion

Another question is what genre of rock do you think of when you say a decade

70s hard Rock, arena

80s glam metal and thrash

90s grunge, alternative

2000 - nu metal

2010 - indie

I downgraded the 50's due to the quality of the recordings. The recording equipment wasn't up to snuff. Much of the music of that decade was recorded in mono. I liked the artists but the recordings just weren't great due to technology.

Myself I would rate it.

1950's - 8
1960's - 10
1970's - 9
1980-87 - 9
1988-2022 - Zero

50's - 6.2
60's - 8
70's - 9.2
80's - 4.7
90's - 9.25
00's - 5
10-20's - n/a

Added points to the 70s for having killer funk like Parliament & Bootsy - plus launching jazz like George Benson

I would give every decade an 11. There’s still a metric ****-ton of great Blues-based Rock out there, if you know where and how to find it. Hope no one really believes that great Rock stopped when Led Zeppelin stopped touring.

And now I will begin my music listening day by playing my own playlist of stuff I pulled from my personal collection of 20,000+ songs. Today will include songs by The Black Keys, Gov’t Mule, The Blackwater Fever, The Temperance Movement, Royal Blood, The Bonnevilles, Federal Charm, The Blue Stones, The Dirty Streets, Black Country Communion, Black Pistol Fire, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Joe Bonamassa, and Henry’s Funeral Shoe.
