Looks great but I'd be overwhelmed taking orders, especially if it was busy crunch time.
The biggest difference I have always found was the further you get away from Philly the harder it was to reproduce the roll. Baltimore had some good ones as does the Eastern shore but other than that too far away from home so to speak.
one of my go to’s was where @psuro spent his first 2 college yrs. Sadly the guy died and closed shop. So you can still find them just have to kiss some frogs
Correct you are, proper rolls are vital to a great tasting cheesesteak.

Sarcone’s is the gold standard. When they had the deli opened years ago, their sandwiches were killer. The best.

The variety of rolls they make are excellent. I don’t know if they still make tomato pie but it was pretty good as well ( have you ever had a bad tomato pie? Nah, me neither ).

Lastly, there was a clip in the video of putting cheez whiz on the cheese steak which is not acceptable!!! Cheese whiz does not belong on Philly Cheese Steaks. In the 90s I frequented many many cheese steak places in many neighborhoods throught out the city and Cheese Whiz was not a thing. I hate the person that introduced it
Thought the same thing until my recent order from Whiz Kids in Bethlehem Twp was screwed up and I got one by mistake. Surprisingly, I loved it and get them whit wiz occasionally. Adds a nice tangy flavor.

For the Lehigh valley people Whiz Kids is pretty good. I think Bayou in Bethlehem has them as well, same owners.

The snack bar at Little Bennet golf course in Montgomery County, MD used to offer a decent cheese steak sandwich. No idea if they still do, since their snack bar was closed during the pandemic and I haven't stopped by for lunch lately.

I finally made it to Jim's Steaks (4th & South, in Philadelphia), which reopened on May 1, 2024, after being closed for 21 months after a fire did serious damage to the building. It did not disappoint -- it remains in the top 5 of cheesesteaks, IMHO.

A friend of mine from Texas and his wife have been on vacation in Philly for the past week. Have eaten at several cheesesteak joints. Haven't told me which they like yet though.

Anybody remember Feeb’s in the Chicago area? It was Beef’s spelled backwards. Italian seasoned beef by the pound with poppyseed rolls - use the same rolls for hot dogs out there. They also gave you a little container of au jus with some horseradish sauce. Oh man, heaven on earth.

Outriggers bar and grill in Sebastian Florida. Prime rib cheese steak ( one of the best ever) side order of sweet potato fries, drizzled with honey. To die for.
It's technically Micco, not Sebastian, but you're not wrong.

Where is the best cheesesteak? Well! I found it. It is the shop where everyone goes to get their cheesesteak fix. For me it is CC Peppers in State College.
Granted, I haven't tried them for about twenty five years, but I never saw the appeal of CC Peppers.

So what is your point? I haven't had spinach, broccoli, kale, liver in more years than I can remember, I never saw the appeal of any of them.

Campus Steaks is very good, as is We Are. My favorite cheesesteak right now in State College is at Local Whiskey. The large is actually 2 10” steaks, so it’s great for taking one away to eat later at the hotel or on the way home after a game.

The bars Local Whiskey and Central Reservation share the same kitchen. When Cheesesteaks are on the menu at Central Res. It’s the same sandwich. And yes, you nailed it. The Cheesesteaks at those bars are very good.

Yes, they are the same kitchen and both are connected. I’ve just always had better luck getting seated at Local.

Got a place right here in Eden, NC, Elizabeth’s Pizza, whose cheese steaks I enjoy as much as any places in Philly or elsewhere.
As they say, it ain’t rocket surgery.

Had one of the best in recent memory at Joe's Pizza in Loyalsock the other day. They make their own bread - it looks sort of like flat bread, but it's just a roll.

Cheesesteak Hoagie - Steak, cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo.

This is what their own baked rolls look like (looks like a turkey sub). They seem to be made so you don't have to gouge the middle of the roll out and still fit all the good stuff inside.

Here's the cheesesteak:

Agree On the Local Whiskey cheesesteak. I know this is a thread about cheesesteaks but the chicken sandwich at Local Whiskey is outstanding as well.

Sort of looks like a “ Wedgie” roll which are pretty popular here in the State College and surrounding area and western Pennsylvania for “ hoagies“.

My rule of thumb is if they advertise “Philly Cheesesteak” then it’s not going to be good.
