This is the last time I'm addressing this, but it is different when GCG and CSC, who have both at one point been employed by the program and have actual sources, discuss rumors, and another thing when a guy suddenly makes an account and immediately claims to have inside info with every power player in and around the program, and then also starts **** by talking about who should replace Fitz. One is a troll, the others are not.
Mmmmm - word troll is thrown a lot around here. Gcg calls me a troll regularly. Kinda subjective unless you have a good definition to share.

btw, when I first started actually posting ( after lurking awhile) I was on another midlife crisis and getting environmental engineering degree at NU. Playing rugby and hanging with NU athletes, I was sharing football info. Like Austin Matthew’s desire to quit. What’s the difference? No posting history. And I legitimately knew the player. Life went to bars and **** together. Later doynes and I became friends for awhile.

We had a bball insider, unconfirmed plus another bball poster whose kid was at NU and fed info. Where’s the line? @CappyNU not addressing is code for not comfortable. Why? Let’s be transparent. Is it really more about the message than the messenger?

No, in this case it has nothing to do with being Italian and more to do with being an actual fan of the program. Disgusted is more like it. As disgusted as I am with the play on the field, I am even more disgusted with the enthusiasm and the glee that more than a few posters on this board exhibit when the program is struggling. Many of these so called fans hardly speak up in good times but absolutely pour it on and revel when things are not going well. Unfortunately they have had plenty of opportunity lately. By nature I am/choose to remain an optimist and the negativity by some of the miserable SOBs on this board is a real downer. It’s unfortunate because I really enjoy the interaction with many thoughtful and passionate NU fans on this board but the bad apples make this board intolerable in times like these.
Corbi = happy optimist :)

Do you think Cannoli was telling the truth?

Sometimes game threads get overtaken by people who revel in misery (though it seems that that number is down this year; we’ve even lost the trolls!), but I can’t think of anyone who enjoys NU losing. Srsly.

Some are quicker to point out the failings or gripe about style points (and it’s a lot more fun to complain about allowing SIU to stay close than about losing to them), but everyone is here because they like NU.

To think something else is pessimistic.

I have been a season ticket holder since ‘93, I’ve gone to away games at every Big Ten venue except Maryland and Rutgers. (some multiple times) and I’ve gone to three of our bowl games.

I take no glee when the Cats lose but am instead depressed for a few days afterwards. But the arc NU football is one will make it irrelevant. And the program isn’t doing well.

And if those observations make me a bad apple, Angry Johnny Appleseed, so be it.

And my offer of help still stands if you are ever at a game to claim your money.

Yeah I don't get it. So what if you have a source inside the program. Maybe that person is feeding you bad information or maybe you misinterpreted.

And seriously, who cares that people are saying Fitz should be fired and here are potential replacements? I like Fitz a lot. That negative stuff does not bother me at all. People get frustrated and vent. Others just want to make fun of your team's struggles. So what?

Its pretty obvious to me that the paid boards should be more protected/restricted than the free board. Its like living in a gated community. You pay to keep the riffraff away from you.

But thats for the folks inside the gates who want or need that protection.

Let’s all transfer to Notre Dame!
Oh the harsh reality BJ has had to deal with at ND. Not wishing him ill. And hoping his humble pie will serve him well down the road.

But let's be objectively honest. Between his last year at NU and this year at ND his limitations have been exposed. The guy who thought he was a 1st round NFL dog that needed to play with real dogs has learned he'll never sniff the NFL while playing 2nd fiddle to Irish dogs that have little to no hunt in them.

And no. I am not arguing BJ would have been better off sticking with NU. His experience is instead a graphic example of why NFL scouts pay no attention to stats (or the honors that come with them) unless those stats compliment the physical and mental attributes necessary to make plays at the highest level of the game.

Wait.... they haven't banned you yet? Hell....I thought that would have happened a long time ago!

In all seriousness, you really think its a bad thing to use longevity and track record in your judgement about posters? I don't want new people signing up and making **** up on here about important topics. And I think it makes perfect sense to view them differently then, say, a long-time poster who has demonstrated a commitment to the program and this board (for better or worse).

Possibly Sicilian, which would explain it.
My wife is an Italian/Sicilian. As her father once told me, “Remember, (insert Streamcat’s real name here). Vendetta is an Italian word.“ At the time, I thought it was a threat. Now I know that it was a promise.

In light of the recent Canoli thread(s) and subsequent action taken, I just couldn't keep my opinion on this subject to myself, especially in light of what I perceive is taking place in our country with wokeness, cancel culture, and subsequent stifiling of the free interchange of ideas. Frankly, I found nothing in the Canoli thread(s) that offended me (as an alum, donor, and season ticket holder for 28 years). The banter was interesting, and nothing was life threatening. Maybe in times like this, for some, everything is life threatening. On the other hand, when you're as old as I am, everything is life threatening.

I've been a member of this board and boards that have preceded it since 1995 - the year that NU suddenly woke up as a Big 10 football team. So I'm going to invoke the longevity priviledge and offer my opinion on the subject of banning posters and ending threads.

Before I do though, I recognize that this is a private site, and the owner can make any rules regarding banning posters and closing threads, that they choose - and we as members either accept it, or go elsewhere - I get it. Having said that, here's a little food for thought:

I believe this board offers a feature to all of us that offers the opportunity to ban (ignore) that, or those, who we don't want to hear from. I also believe that you can reverse your decision to ignore if you have second thoughts. Why choose the irreversible, nuclear option (by a moderator), when a good sight picture with a rifle ( or even cap gun) by each of us, will do the job? Personally, I don't want big brother deciding what is, or is not appropriate for me to read. If I don't like the content, or the individual posting it, I'm fully armed, have taken a class in self defense (including concealed carry), and my judgement alone, is all that is needed to pull the trigger. Poof (or bang) in a spray of pink mist, he ,she, they, them, zhi, y'all are gone.

So what about the egregious, toothless, unwashed, hordes that's made up of opponents who infest this site from time to time? Well, there will always be the need for oversight, I guess.
I’ll self ban if we don’t win 🥇 one of our next two games! I can’t take the suffering anymore!

When did this occur?

The second instance was immediately after Iowa lost in the NCAA tourney this spring. Someone did an "IO_A" post and my comment was along the lines of NU fans really have no case to call out the shortcomings of other schools basketball programs. That got me an immediate sparky comment from I assume an admin who then quickly deleted post, kicked me out, and blocked me.

Good stuff lol!

TBH the page at the time was mostly Turk.

As things progressed - no. But I think there is a lot of BS around here. Only one I believe consistency is chicagosportsfan. But I wouldn’t ban anyone for passing off their BS around here. One example - pretty sure the world is not flat.

They keep trying and I keep suing my way back :)

I do - we were all new once. I lurked a long time before posting. PWB brought insights from his daughter’s access while newly appearing and triggering a number of the old skool crew. And won’t think it would have been any value to have banned him.

I think everyone here, especially yours truly, is the equivalent of a failed left tackle. We’ve all been moved to right guard. It’s just time to get on with our posting lives and not be so fragile.

After their losing to Stanford, a team that had the same record as us? When is the last time ND was 3-3?
Ordinarily, I would root for the Russian national team against ND, but that is not the case this year. They lost their starting quarterback in the opening game, and, their jerk of a coach left for LSU. Thus, I don't care if they win or lose, and I'm content with rooting against LSU every week. (Sorry to miss you at Homecoming my Alaska friend - medical issues got me as I'm sure you heard)

So sorry to hear that, I hope you have a short and good recovery. Our class is pushin' 80, which has it's great moments, but also drawbacks. Aiming for 100.

Sorry to confuse. It was a sarcastic response to the poster who calls himself an NU fan but once posted that NU should not bother to take Jack Lausch because if he gets any good he will just end up transferring to ND.

There have been many horrible, cynical, defeatist posts from so called NU fans on this site but that one takes the cake in my opinion.

Tolerance for known posters who have earned the benefit of doubt. New posters claiming inside info=Suspect. For the record I don't like Corbi and hit ignore and the result is I think this board is a dream come true.

Agree here. Some form of balance. But, again, I started posting while back at NU and hanging out with a variety of athletes including some football players.

Well, in 2016 they started 2-5......but the answer is:

2010 - beat Purdue, losses to Michigan, MSU and Stanford, then wins against BC and Pitt.

I know, and much of it is reciprocal--one injury or condition occurs, and that causes another, which then exacerbates the first. I find myself thinking, okay, what's going to go next? The good news is your body will heal itself if you allow it the opportunity (to a point). Which is one important reason I hope the Cats recover soon, since I'm convinced rooting for the Cardiac Cats is much better for your health than enduring ennui.
