Maryland will become the 8th school that WVU has played more than once in the NCAA tournament. The complete list of multi-game opponents and WVU's records against them is as follows:
Three Meetings:
St. Joseph's = 2-1 (W 95-92 in 1959, W 106-100 in 1960, L 97-88 in 1963)
Duke = 1-2 (L 70-63 in 1989, W 73-67 in 2008, L 78-57 in 2010)
Two Meetings:
Dartmouth = 1-1 (L 61-59/OT in 1956, W 82-68 in 1959)
NYU = 1-1 (L 82-81/OT in 1960, W 83-73 in 1963)
Louisville = 1-1 (W 94-79 in 1959, L 83-75/OT in 2005)
Missouri = 1-1 (L 89-78 in 1992, W 68-59 in 2010)
Kentucky = 1-1 (W 73-66 in 2010, L 71-63 in 2011)
All four schools who had beaten WVU in the 1st tournament meeting failed to do so again in the second game. Hopefully the Mountaineers can extend that to five against the Terps. Maryland won the only prior tournament meeting 102-77 in 1984, also after WVU had won a close opening game.
