I'm not a huge fan of that comparison. I thought both Jason and Chris were two pretty damn good natural lead guards. Jason could score with the best of them but he was a great distributor and he was a PG. Chris was a good shooter and slasher as well (nowhere near as gifted as Jason), but he was absolutely a pass first PG that could run a team- and did.

None of our guys on this year's team are PGs by trait, nor have they ever been. They'll try and hold down the fort, play the position by committee much like we did with Jon and Nolan, which I think is the more fair comparison. Neither of those guys was a PG by nature, maybe by size for Nolan but that's it. Jon adapted and learned to get us into our offense and I think we'll ask Grayson, Luke, Matt (who did it last year) and Frank (the most gifted of the 4 to play that position effectively well potentially) will all service that position at different times.

I do like that comparison much better. I know that Williams and Duhon could distribute, but I always thought of them as score-first PGs. But obviously reasonable minds can differ, haha.

I do really like the Scheyer/Smith comparison. Having this talent and some experience creates a situation where they do not have to be outstanding PGs like Tyus, as long as they do the job they are asked. Scheyer was exactly that guy. He didn't make any flashy PG plays, but he almost never did anything wrong. Hopefully, Allen and Jackson can be similar guys. Definitely a better comparison though.

Amile Jefferson on our 2016-2017 team:

"Our moment has started this summer and it’s an exciting time. The talent is like I’ve never seen. It‘s special. We have that mix of older guys with Matt, Grayson and me. We have guys who have a year under their belt in Luke and Chase. And then we mix that in with a freshman class that has it all. The new guys are polished and ready to play. They are hungry and have all the physical abilities you could ever want to play our game. To have a team with this talent is a blessing. It doesn’t come around like this often. It may never come around again. Even some legendary Duke players never had the fortune of playing with the talent we have."

Good God man, I'm pumped to the MAXXXX !

If Chris Duhon was a score-first point guard, then he wasn't a very good one. He averaged 10.0 ppg in his best season at Duke and that was playing 35 minutes per game. His career scoring average at Duke was 8.8 ppg.

But he did average 5.7 assists per game, which is third in Duke history. He's first in career steals at Duke and third in a/to ratio. He was about as pure a point guard as one can find.

Jason Williams was more properly characterized as a lead guard. He averaged 6.0 apg at Duke-Hurley averaged 7.7--but also averaged 19.3 points per game.

Remember Duhon came off the bench most of his freshman season. He and Williams only started together for an entire season once, 2002. Williams averaged 21.3 points and 5.4 apg. Duhon averaged 8.9 points and 5.9 apg.

Starting two ball-handlers that skilled was unusual. But by any accepted standard, Chris Duhon was a pure point guard.

what makes it even harder for duke this year is you're the favorite to win it all. Sure you have been in the past and done so but this year is different since you're heavily favored. Like us in 2015. If you don't win it all, there will be a lot swollen ankles and broken hearts here with people acting on pure emotion, and of course multiple rounds of the what if game

New decree. The phrase Pure Point Guard is now banned for one season on the DI board...unless Quade Green commits. Then we can talk about it.;)

This team is loaded and will do some special things this season! I am so ready for the season to kick off and watch this team in action! Also, I am eager to see what this team will do to UNC! Maybe another 82-50 will take place!

Kind of hard not to notice part of Amile's quote: "The talent is like I have never seen." Let's not forget that Amile played with Jabari and Hood on the same team and won a title with Jah, Winslow, Tyus, et al. Crazy to think this team's talent is noticeably better and has way more depth.

big luke maye is gonna be big this year. radar williams will average 15 ppg. tony bradley will average 20 rpg this year. kennedy meeks will be better as a senior than as a freshman. joel berry will the the ACCPOY. justin jackson will be the ACCPOY if joel berry is not. seventh woods will be the ACCROY and average ppg. The AP, Coaches poll , ESPN and all other All-American polls will ask hof coach roy williams to name 3 of his tar heels to the 1st team All-Americans and 3 or 4 more to the second and third teams because they just can't do it. UNC will find a way to average 110 points per game this year, no doubt
