Yeah we got 60 free yards net from Northwestern. Wasn’t enough. Was the lack of formation penalties, false starts and delay of game penalties.
The bad thing is we still found a way to lose.
And SOS Air Conditioning is getting a lot of advertising. Mathis & Queen got $750K.….and look at all the free advertising Nebraska is getting on ESPN and other national news. People may forget who Trump is.
I haven't watched the replay, but will. What I did look for was the alignment on the previous NU kickoffs and what may or may not have been different on the onside kick. And did see the alignment change, or should I say the red flashing light that NU showed NW on the onside kick.Rewatched the game..
We are even with NW on a lot of things, but the things that stood out are:
2 interceptions by CT. We traded fumbles with NW, We traded failed field goals, but their QB did not throw 2 picks.
Our Linebackers need a lot of work on the run game. The first half wasn't so bad, but the second half, our LB looked slow and were not attacking the ball. They were playing pattycake with the offensive blockers and not even watching as the running back blew by with the ball.
D-Line and O-Line didn't look too bad. Actually, on both sides the QB got rid of the ball quickly, thus you didn't see a lot of sacks by either side, and each QB made fast decisions. We got pressure, and they did too, but it wasn't this massive failure people think the lines are. Getting the ball out quickly helps negate any deficiencies there.
I did not see great run blocking. We were told this was the OL strength, but didn't see it in the game.
The onside kick was absolutely dumb and was a momentum turner.
We were not penalized nearly as much as they were, but still we should have gotten more from our running game.
In the second half, our running game was atrocious, it was like NW made an adjustment, while we did not. I noticed we subbed in a lot of players who weren't the original starters in the second half, who either dropped a pass, or made some kind of error.
Rotating guys is important, but there was a major dropoff for some of these guys getting snaps.
This was still our game to win until the end. We should have won this, but it was evident that CT wasn't the same poised guy as the first half. Whipple should have tried to put someone else in for at least a series late in the 3rd/early 4th. He should have been wise enough to see that CT was unsettled.
It was almost as if something made the offensive staff panic, between Frost and Whip, something fell apart there and you could see it reflected in the offensive play.
On another board, there is some discussion about those two guys not liking / working with each other, maybe because of the comments after the game, but something isn't right over on that side, because as soon as we did the onside kick thing, our offense was ineffective after that.
So that is the main discombobulation.. on offense, and Chins needs to look at the linebackers and why we played so much zone coverage?.. he might not trust the guys to play man yet.. I am not sure.
I heard that Rahmir was absent in the rb rotation bc of a fight at a casino in Ireland. What were they doing in a casino in the first place, I don't know.I haven't watched the replay, but will. Don't they know the little data analyst guys do nothing but chart plays, formations, how many men are on the field, data, data, data. Why would you change the alignment if you were trying to trick NW on that onside kick when the R1- R5 guys have seen the same opposite L1 - L5 guys lined up to kickoff, then all of a sudden there are 6?
Hypothetical. What does anyone think Trev's initial reaction could have been after reading Frost was throwing the Offensive coaches under the bus?
Do you think, if true, Trev suspects/knows there is unneeded tension between Whip and Frost due to the play calls?
Why did NU come down the stretch with the most talented receivers on the sideline and not on the field?
Anyone know why Chubba was bypassed for Logan and for only one play?
Allen bypassed Ervin? (Rumor). According to a podcast, Ervin went to a casino on Friday night.
Looks like power plays or imposing someone's personal opinion rather than what's best for the team.
For NU to have the slightest chance to succeed, it looks like Trev could consider a sit-down and reaffirm what the stated rules are.
In real life, when the dude that might want to fire you lays down the rules, you best stay in your lane.
It's hard to tell, but having the wheels come off in game 1 is a good way to go 3-9 again.

Rahmir was on special teams. Don't know the truth or extent of the rumor, but I heard it was Ervin, who did not play.I heard that Rahmir was absent in the rb rotation bc of a fight at a casino in Ireland. What were they doing in a casino in the first place, I don't know.
They all said this was a "business" trip. Those are poor teammates.

Frost doesn't even want to win and keep his job. It's as if he's TRYING TO GET FIRED before Oct 1 so he can take his money and run.I haven't watched the replay, but will.
