Gaines.

He really has passion for the game and is getting better and better. And, as a fan, win or lose, I really enjoy watching him play. If our wings hustled as much as him, we would be undefeated.

Yup, and I believe he may have had career highs for two games in a row now.

Agreed, he is a fantastic player, starting to assert himself on offense the way he always has on defense. Crazy that he was our best option today. Wish we had run more stuff through him and that he had shot more down the stretch.

Don't think Gaines is more athletic than the other guys (wings), but seems like he's the only one willing to continually attack the basket.

Even then he stopped and deferred too much in the second half. When NU struggles they look to Vic to stem the tide. I think that is the right thing to do, but not 100% of the time. Yesterday, Vic couldn’t throw it in the ocean. It was the time Gaines or Turner had to drive and create contact. We have 4 guys floating around the 3 point line and 1 trying to rebound the miss of that 3 pointer. Just bad offense.

"assert" is the word im looking for with turner and taylor. Vic needs backup, but those two are sleepwalkers. Not sure why, but Gaines became less assertive in the second half as well. My hunch is the ever changing defence of iowa.

I wouldnt use athletic as an adjective to describe any of our starters except Law but his ball handling skills arent the greatest.

The sad reality is that we have zero quick players to the baskett. Isaiah Brown had a quick move through the lane to the baskett but he got run off by Collins. Neither Taylor, Turner, Pardon, or Kopp have quickness at all.

There are three guys on the roster who can absorb contact and continue on with their play: Pardon, Kopp and Gaines.

NU plays in the Big Ten where there's lots of contact.

Isaiah had a quick move to the basket that invariably ended with him getting stuffed. He did it often enough, he got benched.

Just to add some commentary to your imaginary world.

Right and Brown was nowhere near the player that Kopp is and certainly no better then Turner or Taylor. He added nothing but a little quickness, no ball handling ability, zero passing chops and zip on defense. Is was rightly seated near the end of the bench and saw the writing on the wall and transferred. No evidence that he was "run off", just faced reality.
