Is that I keep hearing people say that what this UK team is doing will never be done again. And while it's possible that these people could be right, it's also possible that they won't be right.

With Calipari as the head coach of Kentucky you can't convince me that something can't be done. They said you can't win with freshmen but he's done it. They say you can't go undefeated and while we haven't done it yet, I think we have proven that it is certainly possible.

Not complaining, just don't understand why people people think this way. I know it is rare and hasn't been done for several years but still.

sorry this won't happen again . I do think in the next 5-8 years ( how much longer i think Cal stays ) he will have a few more 1-3 loss teams but it is soo sooo sooo sooo hard to not lose a single game and we still are 9 away .

Illinois was 2 points away in overtime from doing it in 2005, but I guess we forget that.

If I thought Cal was going to be at UK for another decade or two I'd agree. I don't think its impossible but IMO its very very unlikely.

Just look at the number of things that took place for this year to happen:

5 very talented players returned - not including very serviceable players in Hawkins and Willis
Significant improvement from the Twins and WCS
All 4 freshmen developed into elite contributors in their first year - including Towns being possibly the best big in the nation.
Enough depth to withstand injury/illness.
Incredible chemistry and unselfishness.


Any of these things change and there's an easy loss or two.

Someone needs to help me understand why if the 2 year rule is adapted in the NBA, this UK team won't be the norm.

I think this team is the beginning and not a pinnacle thing.

Yep! Consider the fact that we won some games that we could have lost. Two games went into OT. A miss here or a hit there and we are not talking about an undefeated season.

Having said that, it would be possible for UK to field an unbeatable team. I am talking about a team that just blows everyone out. This year's team sometimes struggles to score. Imagine what it would be like if DJ, for example, was automatic in the paint?

Just because it's highly unlikely doesn't mean that this won't ever happen again. Our 2012 team was a last second shot and a flat game against vandy away from going undefeated. Pretty sure that wasn't too long ago.

Lets not get in too big of a hurry here....UK hasn't done anything yet other than make it through the regular season undefeated. Thats happened a number of times. IF... they go on and do the 40-0 thing then its likely not to happen again in our lifetime. Some just don't grasp how difficult this is to do in today's game. Sure in the years of UCLA there was very little compitition amoung many teams. Much like women's basketball now (but that's changing somewhat as well). Even the so called "no bodies" can have a lot of talent.

Even now, UK has a long road to make it undefeated for the year. Lets just ride the wave until it plays out and be thankful for the ride.

that wasn't even important , the loss that was important was them losing to UNC in the title game. If we are talking about going undefeated in regular season , while that is a big deal , that could happen again for sure but not going 40-0 in a major conference . I thought that was what the OP was talking about .

basically you just explained why it won't happen again and its is sorta funny you don't get that. Every team has last second shots go against them , every team goes flat here and there. The fact this team hasn't let that kill them in a game is what makes this team already one of the 10 greatest teams IMO ever.

It really doesn't make sense to say this can never be done again. You all sound just like the people who said you can't win with freshmen.

It is a special thing. I understand how difficult it is to accomplish what this team is doing. I just don't understand how people can just be so quick to act like it's IMPOSSIBLE for this to ever be done again.

We finished the regular season 31-0 they finished 29-1. If this were grenades and horse shoes......

Had they beaten Indiana there is no way they lose the SECT.

Here in the day of modified OAD who is to say that Cal won't put together a team that goes undefeated.What if Booker Towns,Lyles ,Ulis and Lee stay and Newman shows up next season?

How do you know that?

They looked AWFUL in the SECT. Complacency may have set in well before that. And then they lose to someone else before the SECT.

We didn't have to play a top ranked Florida or Tennessee this year. SEC won't be this down at the top like they were this year and neither are most other conferences. Plus these one and done mercenary programs like Duke and Carolina are basketball factories and won't hold onto Stein level upperclassmen like we do.

Not never never, but it'll be a damn long time.

History says it wont happen again anytime soon. Its been nearly 40 seasons since the last unbeaten team in 1976 (IU).

Its common knowledge that college basketball is alot more competitive than it was 40 yrs ago.

Hell UK hasn't done it yet and the odds are still very much against us to do it although I personally think we will.
