Who is to say that Davis doesn't tilt him for a tech fall from the top position to win the spot. Ever weight class is open, no starting spots guaranteed.

Here's the match where he obliterated Arujau. So Nolf-like -- the pace, also the hard snaps and attacking the snaps even harder. And that's against a taller/longer guy who was the reigning world champ and the only American who could SURPASS RBY's quickness.

He's gonna win and win big.

"Ono notched three tech falls and one decision victory on his way to the world championship, including a 7-2 victory over top-ranked Penn State commit Marcus Blaze."

Good lord those two will be waging some serious wars in the room!

Hey @GregPickel when you next interview the PSU coaches, would you please ask them if Sanshiro Abe was involved in his recruitment.

Also, what will Ono be studying at PSU? Thanks.

Hey guys, given the way japan has been performing internationally, having a pipeline to Japan ain't a bad thing, is it? 😁 🇯🇵 🥇🏆🏅
Hi schooler Blaze

Nagao is a relentless top wrestler. Ono will have to learn to get out from bottom real quick.

He also has the opportunity to roll with Zain, Nick, and others in the room… he can get plenty of reps on bottom…and top!

An interesting take, though Micic makes a mistake listing Bartlett as somebody on PSU's roster for next season.

Just in case that's not a rhetorical question, I, for one, will say that your scenario will never play out. 😁

In the time he has wrestled freestyle at PSU in the last several months, I have to believe that ONO has already rolled with those guys in folkstyle.

Ono isn't going in to this blind. If he didn't think he could adapt at a high level, I doubt he would have pursued this opportunity.

I recommend going to YouTube and watching the Ono/Blaze match. Blaze would be an immediate title contender for us. Ono is OTHERWORLDLY!

Something occurred to me about Ono after this weekend. We’re all excited about the idea of him wrestling for PSU, but think about the college experience he gets to brag about when he returns to Japan. How many Japanese citizens get the opportunity to go to a whiteout in Beaver Stadium with over 110,000 people in attendance? Or participate in all the fun activities that take place throughout the year. Or wrestle in front of a standing room only crowd in BJC? Or attend/compete in the 3 day event at the NCAA tournament? Those are just a few things that quickly pop into my head and I’m sure everyone here can name a lot more. He’s going to live through an experience that only a small number of foreign students get to see. That’s worth a lot right there without talking about medals, trophies and NIL deals.

so if Ono gets 2 yrs and will start they will break the NCAA scoring record this season, next season they only lose Haines so they will break the scoring record again after that who knows!

We will know if Ono goes ahead of Davis.. that he is ready for Folk .... that is an unbelievable lineup... with multiple AA on the bench or shirting
Desmon, BDavis, Nagao, Dalton, Kasak, Sealy, Asher, Hanckel, Connor

that is an embarrassment of riches... Onos addition only speaks to Caels dominance!

Also, why if a wrestler wins or loses vs a high school kid or lower division in these tournaments it does not count on his record , but Japanese college wrestling decisions effect ones eligibility?
certainly seems all the foreign olympic swimmers went to college in the US.

The NCAA is a joke. I’m 100% convinced that if Ono was going to any school but one of the big three, he’d already been given 2 to 4 years of eligibility.

It makes sense the NCAA wants to flex their muscles on a non revenue sport to show they are still relevant.

Ono is strong enough technique over muscle all day long just ask iowa and the bucks all those muscles mean nothing when wrestling PSU!

I think we are extremely lucky to get 2 years out of him; in another country, unable to speak the language, focused on a second discipline, regardless of his redshirt status.

He is a national hero, away from that country, embarking on what really is an experiment. Ono is an athlete who is the best in the world at what he is does, now a bit distracted from a lazer focus on his craft while in the middle of his prime. Most international world champions have about a 4-6 year peak window.

We are more than blessed to get two, if not just one. Would it be unprecidented for him to become homesick, or simply want to go back to full time freestyle after less than a year away? You bet.

I don't like counting chickens before they hatch. As soon as he can be AA credible on top and off bottom, I say release the beast.
