Starting now.

Ono up 8-0 at the break.

12-0 tech

Masanosuke Ono (blue). Hotaka Ando (red)
1
Ono snaps hard & gets behind for a takedown and a gut enroute to oob, 4-0. Ono looks hurt or takes a few breaths before returning to center. Red shoots and Ono counter attacks for a step out point and caution +1, 6-0. A lot of finger interlocking. Red picks up a caution, Red is warned for passivity at 4:00. Ono with an luke-esque ankle pick and casual finish, 8-0 with :38 to go in the 1st. EoP 8-0.

Break - Cody and Conoway appear to be the corner team

2
Red harrasses Ono’s head and whiffs on an outside single. Ono holding position, looks for an ankle but misses. 1:30, Ono gets a front headlock and goes headpinch for 4 to close the TF 12-0
Workmanlike match. 安 藤 武 尊 was long. Ono wrestles low and compact in his stance.

Was worried about Ono being injured also, but no cold spray was needed.

Ono hasn't wrestled a live match since he wrestled Spencer, has he?

His head pinch is so sweet. Who is in his corner? I’m watching on my phone and couldn’t see very well

I just saw in the post before me that it’s Cody and Conoway in his corner
I wasn't totally sure that was Jordan, but I think so.

He looked like he hurt his wrist on one exchange in the first period when he was up 4-0. But like the great Taylor Swift, he seemed to be able to shake it off.

Quick 10-0 tech for Ono. Couple push outs followed by a takedown to 4-0 then a really nice ankle pick to get to 6-0 and leg laced to 10-0 final.

On the UWW site it says Fujita was silver at the 2018 cadet worlds. He also won bronze at the 2018 youth Olympic Games where he lost to none other than Robbie Howard!
Wow, cool information. Now, is he related to Yoshira Fujita?

Ono almost looks like he is just drilling out there. Whenever he really goes and hits a committed attack he gets it. Hopefully his finals match will be a little bit tougher

I couldn't agree more. He has a lethal combination of great technique, speed, explosiveness, strength and a great stance/defense. His explosiveness will be beneficial in folk as it will lead to quick finishes, thus avoiding those folk style scrambles. I foresee great folk style success for him.

@nerfstate Thank you so much for letting us know this event was happening and all of the work you put into the brackets, translations, and pbp. I really appreciate it. It’s been way too long since we got to see Ono on the mat so this was a fun surprise
Perfect storm for me of being in the same boat about wanting to see him compete, and having a little bit of free time, and a penchant to geek out on technical challenges, lol.

This bronze should be good--the Russian named guy in Red has been wrecking the bracket, but Mukaida has also looked great.

Edit, Nope, Mukaida dominated with a quick tech.

The other 2 mats appear to be behind--on bouts 48 and 49 when the finals start on each mat at 55. They're probably just holding the finals on Mat A until the others are set to start. I'm waning my dudes. Haven't been up past 2 in a looong time.
