Hansbrough was outstanding. He was just too undersized in the NBA....which actually shocked me. I thought like J.J., that Hansbrough would be able to bust his *** and make himself a lot of NBA money and have a long career, Not a great career, but at least an efficient career.
Overrated? Gosh, there's so many. I'm not sure where to start. So many young kids get overrated by 'experts' these days that they manage to kill their careers before they even start. There's a number of 22- and 23-year-old's who were household names to college basketball fans three and four years ago that haven't been heard from since. It's a shame.

Ronald Curry. Don’t know how I forgot him. Most overrated player, at least in the last 20 years
I think Hanstravel was a great college player but just not talented or quick enough to make it in the pros. He just had nothing to offer a pro team except a big body. Also he never got over that bloody nose from that dastardly Duke player.
Based on high school hype/rank, easily the Harrison Twins. Athleticism out the ***, and literally nothing else. Worst backcourt in ever seen.
Not to pick on us. But for the #1 recruit in the country, Josh McRoberts was pretty underwhelming.....

Josh didn’t live up to the Garfinkel “new age Laettner” distinction that’s for sure. He also called Paulus the next coming of Bobby Hurley.

Ironically they were both the same class, 2005. You're probably right, for Paulus being the #11 recruit in the country, he was probably even more underwhelming that McBob was.
Our 2006 team was fun to watch, JJ set the world on fire, but having to start freshman Paulus at PG, well....should have known a title wasn't happening.
Yes most definately. If I remember correctly he was one of the top recruits in the country in both football as QB and basketball as a PG OFC in the country. His recruitment was a big deal in both sports. Everyone wanted him. He finally chose UVA in football but when unc cheater u told him he could play both he decided the heels were for him. The best I can remember is that he had a tough time making the transition from sport to sport and was only average in both. One thing I do remember is he was a poor free throw shooter. Against us he got fouled near the end of a tight game and faked an injury. Very poor acting job but he went to the bench and of course a better free throw shooter came in for him and if my memory is correct the shots were made and we lost. He did play with the Raiders for a while as a wide reciever. I've always wondered if he had any regrets but probably not. He got to do it the carolina way and always be part of that family. OFC
Yes. Was supposed to be most sought after point guard. Bobby Bowden wanted him bad too. Remember reading something from Curry before he signed that he was only staying in college until he got a shoe endorsement.

There will always be a soft spot in my heart for Ronald Curry. If not for him, Jay Williams probably goes to UNC. Curry actually did end up having a decent NFL career as a receiver for the Raiders, but he never came close to living up to the expectations.
I disagree about Paulus....for that season, anyway. It was probably his best year at Duke. I think partly because that was J.J. and Shelden's team....Greg wasn't able to be himself. He was not liked by his teammates starting his sophomore season. It only got worse his last two years.
But, I don't think Greg being the starting PG on that team is why they didn't win the title. That team just couldn't survive nights where J.J. was awful. There wasn't enough in the tank.
I researched Curry and need to make some corrections. He actually set a couple of unc cheater u records in football. He also was MVP In a couple of bowl games. He is now a wide reciever coach for the New Orleans Saints. Still when you look at the whole picture he didn't turn out as well as expected. OFC
Defensively, Shelden has so many blocks because everyone was getting to the lane. He earned his jersey retirement. Dude worked overtime every game.
Offensively Paulus was decent his freshman season. I believe at one point he was on pace to break the ACC freshman assist record. He almost tied the Duke assist record at 16 with 15 of his own. He just couldn’t translate that to his later seasons.
My cousin Ralph, man he thought he was Gods gift to basketball and he wasn't s&i%.
I am not going to blast other teams when we have had a few underwhelming players. For me I am always scratching my head with Greg Newton. He did not seem a good fit with Coach K.
He was just one of those, free spirit type guys who just went against the grain of a Coach K type of person. He wasn't that but after his freshaman year he was just there to ride out a Duke diploma in my opinion. I think Coach K ended up playing him more than expected because of injuries here and there. I may be mistaken about that though. I do think he could have turned out to be an asset though if he had too. It seems that a reporter ask Coach K about Greg one time and he responded that the most interesting thing about Greg was to go into the locker room to see where Newton had chose to put his next body piercing. Greg along with Taylor King are about the only two disappointments we've had at Duke. Funny thing is he was a captain his senior year but they may been before he lost his cookies. OFC
