Opponents early three pointers

It’s the ball pressure style that Pike likes to run with our guards. Once they get beat, help has to come which leaves the skip or extra pass for a 3 open. Happens to have happened early in every game for the past 4 or so. We’re playing only B1G teams. They know us and know what to exploit.

Maybe we hedge against threes early and force teams to drive to the basket or post up. Hot 3 points starts seem to demoralize us.
"Us" beings fans? No doubt. The players? No - I think they'd still play hard even if the other team hit 20 threes in a row.

I'm more concerned that Rutgers doesn't make enough 3 pointers early or late in the game.

So maybe we start with a zone for the first few minutes to prevent the here we go again demoralizing 3s.

Not questioning still playing hard, but it has to stink as a player watching team after team start with 3 after 3.

My issue is - there’s no plan B...if the defensive scheme doesn’t work...our offense is non exsistent to keep us relevant. We do these dribble hand offs to no avail and end up iso-ing with 10 seconds left on the shot clock. It’s a struggle every time against good defensive teams.

If they got rid of the 3 pointer, and how we’ve done this year even with teams shooting lights out, with our defense Rutgers would be undefeated

If we were able to hit a few threes early on the deficit wouldn't grow as quick. OS have 3 point guys and it doesn't matter whether they are wide open or slightly contested. We on the other hand have to work hard individually to get the shot off or we just totally miss the open three when it's there. The end of the first half is the prime example. We are able to bring the game back to under 10, but they get 2 opportunities and drill both of them, back to 15. Can't play that way on the road, but we do.

the 3 is our Achilles heel right now. We have let a bunch against and not hit as many as we need to.

The early 3s against are because we play good defense inside which means 3s become available. If the other team misses a couple of the makes then it is no big deal but when they make them it is a dagger. On the other side we have been struggling with 3s. Harper has been on a cold streak as an example.

I would prefer the opponent take a 3 where the % is under 40% vs a 5-8 ft jump shot where the % is much higher.

Rather see contested makes in the paint than open 3s all day
But then you have to worry about our bigs getting early fouls. Of course this can happen regardless of our defensive strategy
