OPRF 0 HC 7 Final

HC 52 total yards offense, OPRF 41 yards total offense (edit: in the first half)

Defenses dominating this one so far.

After a great HC punt, on an OPRF 3rd and 15 the HC safety picks 6. HC 7 OP 0

HC offense able to get a first down on a third and two late in the game...next play OP personal foul gives them an extra down...now 3rd and 10 with about a minute left...and my NFHS feed cuts out..but I see that HC ended up finishing it out.

Both defenses show up big time. They might've played 8 quarters without either team scoring offensively.

Couple takeways: HC ran the ball for about 110yds on 40 attempts, and went 2-7 for 14yds passing. Longest run went for 8 yards. If you buy that HC has an above-average/good o-line, then holding HC to under 3yds per run is impressive. Don't think anyone else in the WSC or in the western burbs has the size and athleticism as the OPRF defense. Looking forward to WSS play over the next 6 weeks.

HC defensive front 7 had a great game against OP's read-option attack, allowing 78 yards rushing on 30+ attempts, while holding the pass attack at 4-14 for 32yds and 2 ints.

In the end it seemed that the sophomore OP QB was the swing factor as he threw a pick 6 in the 4th quarter that sealed the deal for the Devils. He is a home-run threat carrying the ball on read option plays but still doesn't seem too comfortable throwing the ball. Lots of potential there though.

OPRF also had a nice blitz off the edge that forced a fumble and gave OP the ball deep in HC territory, but HC stuffed a 4th and 1 from around the HC 25.

Nice to see HC's defense play so well as they will have to in order to make a run for a WSC conference title. Last night was a big step for them.

HC offense still trying to find its identity without Skokna, but they have a good line with a bulldozer type back in Bobak, plus two talented junior running backs who have a lot of potential (one is the younger brother of Skokna, the other is an all-state track athlete that has been playing football in the youth program since a young age). The latter only got one carrier last night but I at least was impressed and thought I saw a flash of brilliance. I think the HC run game will continue to develop and I hope to see carries getting spread around to the rest of the stable as the season goes on.

Yeah, tough loss for OPRF last night. The Huskies easily could be 3-0 instead of 1-2; they've played better than the record shows. Kitty is right, Jaden McGill seemed hesitant to throw the ball. Running is fine, but at some point he needs to complete a few passes to keep opposing defenses honest.

OPRF also has a gifted WR in Trevon Brown. He touched the ball just twice against Hinsdale - 1 catch for 13 yards and 1 end-around that was stuffed for no gain. IMO he's the Huskies best playmaker and the coaches have to find a way to get him more touches.

Will Skokna return this season? He makes HC's offense go, and I could tell he was missed

OPRF will be just fine and win a lot of games the rest of the way. Their Defense is very good and their running game is very good. As you say - they just need to get the passing game going just a bit to keep teams honest. I think they make the playoffs for sure based on the level of play I have seen thus far in the 3 games I have seen live and let’s be honest - there are some cupcake games in the WSC and WSG that the top teams usually fatten up on to get ready for November.

OPRF's next four games - home against Morton, home against Proviso West, at Downers Grove North, home against York. York toughest opponent of the four, but I can see the Huskies winning all four of them .

The first three should be auto wins (and probably a running clock or two).

That would put you at 4-2 correct?

York a critical game.

GBW is always a tough game.

Who is the last team you guys play?

Should be favored and a win.

At worst I would forecast a 5-4 finish and playoff bound via points. (Lose to both GBW and York)

Middle case OPRF takes one of the two remaining competitive games (beats either York or GBW) and goes 6-3

Best case they run the table and finish 7-2. That’s a tough ask though.

Unless the wheels completely fall off - I just cannot see OPRF losing to all 3 competitive teams remaining on their schedule (York, GBW, LT) to finish below 500 at 4-5

Yeah, I thought at the start of the season OPRF would finish 6-3 and they're still on track for it

OPRF at least goes 5-4. More likely 6-3 and I see a path to 7-2. GW and York are going to struggle to run the ball against OP and neither team seems to have a good pass attack (btw---York beat AT by a higher margin than GW did today...as a WSS guy I find that a bit baffling). If OP can just get the O going they could very well beat GW and York.

And @OPRF Illini 96 I can't confirm details on Skokna but there are rumors of an ACL issue.

I agree, I think OPRF can and will shut down York and GBW running games. The big question is can OPRF score against either of those defenses...York QB is fun to watch, and has been extremely accurate passing, but the receivers have had an unbelievable amount of drops.

But I think OPRF wins one if not both of those games. Just too stout of a defense for both of those teams to overcome. As for LT, OPRF will win big.
