I know opt outs happen every year, but there is a team local to me that is not in the playoffs. The team is Northeast Carolina Prep. They had an average season. They did ok and finished .500. As you know, there are .000 teams that make the playoffs in 1A, and this year is no exception. However, this school's program is also a first year program...kind of. It is a fairly young school, existence wise, but they did have a football program when they were first built. Then they had an 8 year hiatus before restarting the program this year. So it IS a first year program, depending on how you look at it. Is there a rule that first year programs can't make the playoffs? They were a regular member of a conference. They certainly did enough on the field to make it.

Their admin kept them out because they started a fight last night against RM Prep. It was an ugly scene

Wow. Really? NECP is fighting? I thought they were the best school in all the land. At least that's what NECP parents act like around here. Yet somehow, they can't get car rider traffic right.
Sucks for the team, though. They could have won a playoff game for sure in their first year, which would have been a HUGE building block for them.

2nd fight they’ve had this year. I think they have a coaching problem. In the video I saw he was the instigator last night.

I was at the game and I can say there was celebrating and questionable calls not called by the officials . In the beginning of the game when NECP was doing their run out Rocky Mount Prep ran out at the same time and they met at Midfield .
At the end you all see the video . Talking to the other incident in the season . NECP is very undisciplined.

Who are they petitioning to? From my understanding it was their people who kept them out. I think they need to just give it up for the year and do some reassessing of their football leadership. They could have a good thing out there but 2 fights in the first season of existence is not a good look.

I believe they're petitioning to the association. I agree with you though, with the amount of money, time, and effort they put into that football program. I think they need to thoroughly reassess the leadership. Two fights in the first season of existence is definitely not a good look.

Alot of them have been basically kicked out of other schools for one reason or another.

Yep the NECP Head Coach was the first one running out to midfield yelling at RM Prep - and the once he saw his players following him that’s when he tried to start holding everyone back but it was too late then.

I hope that isn't true. Not because they don't deserve to be in, because they do. But it's too late. Everything is set. Teams are preparing for who they've been paired with already. And putting them in now will knock somebody out (Even though winless Weldon doesn't belong).

It's true. It's on Facebook. And it's got 260 signatures as of me posting this. I personally don't think it's gonna amount to anything. The video of the fight is pretty clear evidence who started it.

NCHSAA isn't going to change anything. Teams only have a limited time after the preliminary brackets before the brackets are finalized and no more changes.

Not to mention, it takes four signatures to opt out. Head coach, AD, principal and superintendent. So it wasn't just a single person that decided for them to sit out.

I have a cousin that has two boys there, he was SWE class of 95, and he told me today that Mark has changed Alot and doesn't put up with any bs, and that coach put the school on blast on Facebook for not letting them play. Another old SWE coach that works there told him that the football coach has no discipline and lets the players do basically anything they want. And there's a lot of people there that are requesting he be fired behind the scenes.

Old news and statement, but Charters need to be by themselves in another classification from regular public schools. Will say it until my last breath! Different set of rules for charters than regular publics. These charters can go from brand new to winning titles in a few seasons. Regular publics have what they have,

Speaking of NECP the way the fans are responding to the incident and you can see clearly what happened in that video . They are saying their players were not taunting but in the video you can see clearly taunting waving at the opponent and all that and going to their sideline was wrong .
