At first I was very upset with the decision to retain Paris, but after reflecting, his hands were tied by the previous AD with this huge buyout, paris wins either way. Money doesn't grow on trees and we don't know the true financial situation of the athletic department, and we do have another men's program doing poorly, that being baseball. Perhaps retaining an ineffective basketball coach is tough, but if it allows Donati the flexibility to hire a new baseball coach if this current season goes as badly as feared, I support this decision. Not holding this against the current athletic director. He has a business to run and the business has a lot of considerations that go into running it. The time to get upset with the AD might come, but it isn't now.
Women’s basketball doesn’t make money either but how many millions (Staley‘s salary) do they pour into it? So, I’m not convinced just because baseball is not a revenue making sport, it is safe.Baseball makes no money. Ride the contract out with Marinara. As for bball, no one REALLY cares. This isn’t a legacy school, so let Paris France expire his contract. This school ain’t growing cash on trees.
Maybe start a few more threads on the same subject.

The money pissed away on WBB is woke virtue signaling, nothing more. "Look at us, we love and support women's sports". The other schools, the ones who are serious about athletics, athletic programs put the amount of money required by the ridiculous Title IX rules into women's sports and focus on the revenue generating sports i.e. football and men's basketball.Women’s basketball doesn’t make money either but how many millions (Staley‘s salary) do they pour into it? It has a lot to do with brand integrity. At some point, Donati has to repair and upgrade the brand. Baseball is the likely target for improvement given its successful history and lower buyout. Oh, and by the way, the reason (IMO) USC pays Staley is solely for brand integrity and recognition.
As someone has said, if I were PM, I’d be very cognizant that keeping Paris is indicative of the path Donati will take (fire PM) if the baseball season continues to be a flop.
This comment sums it up nicely and seems the likely scenario:

I kind of feel that Donati believes he fixed football with the new hires and NIL; he’s gonna give more NIL to Paris in a prove it or lose it deal next season and Maineri is gonna get the axe. 2026:Maineri, 2027: Paris, and 2028: Beamer if it’s not better.
We should hold this against the BOTNot holding this against the current athletic director. He has a business to run and the business has a lot of considerations that go into running it. The time to get upset with the AD might come, but it isn't now.
How can we overthrow them?We should hold this against the BOT
Be my guest.Laughed hard at that one. So I borrowed it if you dont mind.
This is clearer thinking than some of the reactionary responses I'm reading. There's a long game being played here. It isn't being undertaken lightly. For one thing, Donati might have to fire Beamer, and he knows it.At first I was very upset with the decision to retain Paris, but after reflecting, his hands were tied by the previous AD with this huge buyout, paris wins either way.
