Exactly! If we followed Oregon's 4th quarter strategy, the board would have been all about getting the win because we ran the clock out.

Not sure what game you were watching.
1st Half: 25 passes 20 rushes (56%/44%)
2nd Half: 8 passes 24 rushes (25%/75%)
TOTAL: 33 passes 44 rushes (43%/57%)
Do you think that tells the story? Oregon was 25/27 with no INT in the first half. 4/8 with an INT in the second. Our defense was obviously playing better against the pass (and rush) and getting off the field.
I cannot understand why some feel the need to make excuses for improved play. Oregon didn't stop being aggressive and let us back in the game. They kept doing what they were doing in the first half throughout the 3Q and had no success, because we played better.
It's a little misleading to give the second half stats and not break it down in to quarters. In fact they were pretty balanced in the 3rd qtr but were only 4/7 with a pick. They were roughly 55 run/45 pass if I recall the stats correctly. My sense is that the pick and NU getting closer made them pull hard on the reins in that 4th quarter and try to "not lose". We were doing a much better job in coverage in the 3rd qtr and they were having less success through the air so they all but shut down the passing game in the 4th and rightly so IMO. The right thing for them to do at half time was to try to shorten the game and be sure we didn't have time to come back. IF I were an Oregon fan and he had come out throwing it all over running up tempo and we had lost, I would be PISSED.
