This. I’ve seen multiple references from the Fire Franklin crew lately to his sub-.500 record against Michigan or to Michigan’s having won a natty with zero acknowledgement of their having cheated. Which has me wondering if they’d be cool with going that route ourselves.FIFY

You are counting SMU andThe national narrative about Franklin is that "he can't win the big game." That's false. He's won big games (including but not limited to two playoff games last year). We recruit well under Franklin. What Franklin's PSU teams have traditionally struggled with is beating teams who have 1) recruited more talent and 2) are not flailing with that talent. Now, most teams do consistently struggle against that. However, the issue is that we all know upsets happen. Theoretically, PSU recruits at a high enough level that they should be able to sometimes be that team who upsets the more talented team. Michigan won a national championship by doing exactly this. And so many of those types of games are close with PSU even leading at some point, and yet they are consistent with coming up short at the end. We're waiting for another signature win against an opponent who possesses more talent, not a "big game." I hope that comes this Saturday night.
But, if we lose, then it'll be yet again another loss in which we cannot overcome the recruited talent disparity.
349, are you coming to PA for the game?I think the people saying PSU needs to run the ball sucessfully to win are correct. PSU is a 3.5 favorite from what I've seen. I'm looking forward to seeing how my Ducks do in a night white out game. It looks like a great environment and home advantage.
there he isHe’s not hurt.
psu, schreyer, usc masters, 2 is applying to Wharton in winterPenn State (where i got my BS), Northwestern (where I got by JD) and the youngest is off to UNC next year
Where did your kids go to school?
so cheating is okay? I'm not for that. not in any part of any competition in life. compete within the rules.Joe isn't here now--you get that right?
We all understand what it was--some make it out to be more than it was.
But it's now 2025--the kids are being paid to pay--win
As much as I think it would be a great trip, I'm an old guy with plenty on my plate. I'm paying for my granddaughter's MBA and I'm a volunteer teacher, teaching fifth and sixth graders duplicate bridge. Plus, I'm working on a marriage of 48 years. It's fall and it's time to go flyfishing with my wife. So no I won't be making the trip.349, are you coming to PA for the game?
Cheating? There's a ton or room between what is deemed to be success with honor and cheating.so cheating is okay? I'm not for that. not in any part of any competition in life. compete within the rules.
If it is win at any cost then I'm not interested.
JVP may be dead but the lessons he taught are still relevant.
Newton is dead too, but I still think gravity is a thing even after the Wright bros. made that airplane.
Agreed. Playoff games against top 15 squads don’t matter. They only directly lead to a potential national championship, and who cares about that? Beat OSU, but don’t make the playoffs? No doubt you Franklin-haters would be pleased with that outcome. You deserve better! Those of us who don’t irrationally hate Franklin deserve better than being subjected to your pretzel “logic.” “Knowledgeable analysts” = drunkards with an irrational grudge. You are counting SMU andSt. as big games? No knowledgeable analyst does or should.
Maybe read through the thread and look at the discussion on Michigan's national championship (which was the genesisof my coment on Success with Honor and the Grand Experiment. Then see how Connor Stallions was involved.Cheating? There's a ton or room between what is deemed to be success with honor and cheating.
Tons of programs compete within the rules--not just us.
Why are you paying for your granddaughter‘s MBA? Early inheritance? As much as I think it would be a great trip, I'm an old guy with plenty on my plate. Well this plays right into our hands. Our O-line cannot block and our run game sucks. Its not like Oregon played anyone of note either (better than Nevada/FIU/Villanova - but not at any level of talent to be revealing).
Oregon has certainly looked far more advanced offensively than PSU - but, at the same time, they have shown some kinks in the defense against these less than competitive teams (especially in the run game)
Never heard that one before.....That O on the Ducks helmets stands for the number of national championships they have won.
We decided to "pay it forward". In my opinion, getting her MBA now will greatly improve her future. Why are you paying for your granddaughter‘s MBA? Early inheritance?

As well as the zero number of Oregon football national championships.Never heard that one before.....
Of course if you are interested in what the "O" stands for, the outer part of the "O" is representative of the foot print of Autzen stadium and the inside of the "O" is representative of Hayward Field.
Yeah, why not? It’s hard for young people nowadays. We decided to "pay it forward". In my opinion, getting her MBA now will greatly improve her future.
I’ll be doing it for 2 next year and if he makes grand babies as promised we’ll be paying for their private schoolingYeah, why not? It’s hard for young people nowadays.
It’s sad that life isn’t fair but it’s silly to not take advantage of any privileges one might have. You still have to have to work hard, though. Privilege without a good work ethic, I got no respect for that.I’ll be doing it for 2 next year and if he makes grand babies as promised we’ll be paying for their private schooling
It's also worth remembering Penn State's success before and after the 85 scholarship limit that started in 1994. Of course 1994 was the undefeated team but there was an overall decline after that.Joe isn't here now--you get that right?
We all understand what it was--some make it out to be more than it was.

AHow could a loser, inept moron etc. have the program where it is, a legitimate top10 program. And to have built it from where it was, SIGNIFICANTLY handicapped, underfunded and underdeveloped. As irrational as Franklin hate may be, explain the love to me. Convince me he’s not a car salesman loser.
Bro I could beat blue hens if I had a bye to prepare and I’m a lax coachAHow could a loser, inept moron etc. have the program where it is, a legitimate top10 program. And to have built it from where it was, SIGNIFICANTLY handicapped, underfunded and underdeveloped.
Is Penn State a consistent top program due to... NOT the head coach? He's the only consistent entity on staff, since assistants come and go, and he hires them. He deserves more credit than anyone else.
Even if he's not the X's and O's genius we would all want, even with the OL having their tshirts hanging out, etc. Etc. his success has been undeniable. Critics and frustrated fans with high expectations cite his poor record (which I grant you) against TOP5 teams, but is not actually much of a criticism. It just shows we are a top10 program and not a top3 program.
