Does Oregon fire Helfrich tomorrow? If so, who do you think they go after? Knight has already said he will pay a coach upwards of $10 million a year for the right guy. Do they try to bring Chip Kelly back? Do they call Frost to see if he would come back? Or do they just keep Helfrich for one more year? Just curious who you all thought will be coaching against us next year in Eugene.

Losing to Oregon St is unacceptable so I think Oregon does fire/demote Helfrich. Who do they bring in? Likely a known winner with that type of cash mountain. I don't see Chipper quitting the Niner's mid season and I think Oregon wants a new coach in place now. I really have NO idea who it might be but I don't think it'll be Frost. Would Les Miles be interested? Notre Lame's coach? Former NFL guy like Gruden?

It is a tough decision to make. If I am the AD, I give Helfrich another year. I want to hear him explain what went wrong this year and what they are planning to do to fix it. If his responses seem on track, I give him another year with an expectation of what is needed to maintain the job beyond next year.

I'm not the AD, so let's assume he does decide to let him go. I can't imagine they go to Frost. They basically already tried the elevate an assistant to head coach and that didn't pan out. While Frost had a nice year at UCF, I don't think that is any guarantee that anything different would happen at Oregon. I imagine they'd love to have Chip back on the sidelines and while I think Chip really wants to be successful in the NFL, he may grow tired of the lack of success he's had. Granted, I don't think Belicheck would have had better success at SF based on the talent they had coming back.

I think there's a lack of home run hires out there right now, sans maybe the guy at Western Michigan - but that is taking a bit of a shot. I guess maybe some team may try to poach the Colorado coach after their pretty remarkable turnaround. I don't think Les Miles would fit the Oregon culture, in my opinion.

I feel like they are very concerned with NOT losing what they do on offense. I wonder how that will impact things.

Probably very smart to consider that. Most of the offensive players came there because of that system. They may feel like "fish out of water" if a new guy/different offense come in. Lose those guys and your roster is hurting no matter who the coach is...

Florida rivals site just wrote a story that US today linked McElawin to the Oregon job. Also mentioned western Michigan head coach, Boise St head coach, North Carolina head coach and James Franklin from Penn state.

If they were going to make a move why let him hold end of season meeting with the team and go out on the recruiting trail?

I get that the AD is on the CFP committee but school business should take priority.

I could be wrong but I think he gets another year.

Fedora could be in interesting hire for them. I don't see Fleck leaving the midwest area but I could be wrong.

Totally agree. I see a "come to Jesus" type meeting, which might cost some jobs but not his, yet. They have no bowl game to go to, no reason for the trigger to not have been pulled by now.

I could see them waiting a year to see if Kelly flames out at SF, or maybe see how Frost does in year two at UCF. But if they have a subpar year next year, he's gone for sure.

Oregon's offense is their identity, and if you are going to fire MH, you have to bring someone in who will gets that identity, and that somewhat limits your candidates JMHO.

That'd be interesting, since I saw one bowl projection of Florida/Nebraska in the Outback.

Be a fun a game for fans...but a tough matchup for us. Tommy would have to come up big in this one (vs Florida) in order for us to have a chance.

Oregon better hire some defensive brain trust, that's where they really faltered the past few years.

"Their defenses have never been great and this year their "rent a QB" didn't work out. In the past they were able to outscore people. Not this year.

Count me in as someone who doesn't want the Oregon system at Nebraska. They are intimidating for sure but mostly fell short when they played a physical team.

I believe Frost has brought some of the speed but also some toughness to UCF.

I may be a homer but I hope Frost is available when Riley hangs it up.

I know this would be a reach and would never happen but art briles could step in right away with that team. although i highly doubt any big time program gives him a shot.
