Not good.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The only thing that's gone well for Oklahoma's massive tackle Orlando Brown Jr. this week is a vote of confidence from his Heisman Trophy-winning teammate.

"When are you ever going to watch Orlando Brown run 40 yards down the field?" quarterback Baker Mayfield asked Friday. "You can watch last year's tape and see he allowed zero sacks. I'd say that's pretty important for a left tackle."

It sure is.

But measures matter, too, and Brown's wretched week will undoubtedly stick in the minds of scouts, coaches and general managers leading up to the draft next month.

The nearly 6-foot-8, 345-pound left tackle managed just 14 reps on the 225-pound bench press Thursday, the lowest total of any lineman who has lifted at the combine this week.

That's tied for third-worst among offensive tackles since 2000, according to Pro Football Reference.

Things only got worse Friday for the son of former Browns and Ravens right tackle Orlando Brown .

He lumbered through the 40-yard dash in 5.85 seconds. Even by big O-linemen standards, that's sloth-like slow .

It's the fifth-slowest time by any player at the combine in the last 16 years, and none of the four who were slower were drafted or started a single game in the pros.

"I've been fat my whole life," Brown said earlier this week. "I wish I was fast."

Brown was projected to get drafted in the first couple of rounds, but his bad week in Indy could prove very costly.

His vertical jump was just 19 1/2 inches — nobody has ever gotten drafted with such a bad vertical jump — and his 6-foot-10 broad jump was off-the-charts bad, as well.

Historically, offensive tackles post a tad more than 25 reps in the bench press, run the 40-yard dash in 5.24 seconds and average 28.4 inches in the vertical jump and more than 8 1/2 feet in the broad jump.

He has another chance to impress at his pro day in a couple of weeks.

Just sharing . It will cost him a lot of money
In your opinion. It also might not. Still has a pro day coming up. We wish him luck regardless. He helped OU achieve some additional Big 12 titles while your shorthorns were posting more losing seasons and bringing down the overall prestige of the conference. It's been nearly 10 years since the shorthorns were relevant. That has to suck.

Orlando Brown combine update:
*14 bench reps
*official 5.85 40 yard dash
*yelled at by coaches during drills for loafing

I won't hate on ya Gramps. It is what it is. Will have to wait till draft day to see how much it possibly cost him. But NOT a good look to show up to the combine and put on a crapshow like this. I mean hell he probably should have just skipped the combine and would have been better if this was the best he could show up and do.

I thought of that, too, BR, but Orlando may have been more surprised than anyone about his poor performance. When you listen to the media rave about you, you tend to buy into it, believe it, and think you are better than you are. It had to be a rude awakening for him to go out there, lay an egg, then read about it all over the internet! At his Pre-Combine workouts, he was undoubtedly in a more relaxed set of circumstances, so those numbers reflected a better performance...

Not sure where the loafing comment came from. On the field when they were talking to him it looked like he was asking for instructions and they were giving it to him. Now it may have appeared that they way to some but he is highly personable so some team will see past this and draft him in the first. Some teams are all about the measureables and others are not. Will it hurt him, yes. However he should still be first round just later, because in the end when you put in the tape you can see how good he is. I seem to remember a receiver from FSU running a 4.8 at the combine he ended but being 10 plus year pro and a pretty good one to in Boldin. You also have Haden that ran like a 4.6 at the combine. 2 positions that are predicated on speed and both were all pros

Anyone still gnashing their teeth over losing Jerry Schmidt?

Just kidding obviously. But I wonder what the all-time low rep is for an OT.

I hope he does better at Pro Day. Slow and weak are not qualities the NFL, typically look for. He was a beast against Dlineman his entire career, that has to count for something.

NFL teams watch tape. He may slide a little, but probably not far. Teams hyping the bad performance are just hoping to get other teams to pass so they can scoop him up later than early projections. Game tape > Combine "reps" any day.

That being said, this is all assuming he shows some improvement on Pro Day. If not, then he may really slide down on draft day because then his work ethic would be legitimately be questioned.

Let's hope he turns it around. Good luck, Zeus.

Oklahoma's Orlando Brown had a workout to forget earlier this month at the NFL Scouting Combine. However, the mammoth offensive tackle helped himself behind the scenes at the event.

I spoke to several different teams about which players impressed during the evening interviews at the combine, and Brown's name was mentioned by multiple teams. He presented himself very well and evaluators came away impressed with both his football knowledge and his personality. Now, I believe his poor workout hurt his draft stock, but I think it's still possible that Brown -- once considered a likely first-rounder -- could get picked in the second round, and I would be surprised if he lasted past the third round. -- Daniel Jeremiah
