If I can find the VT and UCLA thread, will link it here, or someone can dump it in. This is always a great thread. Thanks for starting.

Don’t agree with her. We didn’t see much last year iirc so you might expect a rebound this year. I still think we’ll see more patience now than we would have because the numbers are too big and it’s dead money at a time when you’re playing players as well. If the numbers are prohibitive like 20-25M+ I think you’ll see more patience by and large, under that and I think you can see a potential move made.

I think Gundy’s buyout is 15M. They just negotiated it down recently iirc. Pry (7M) and Foster (6.5M) are also lower. Show me multiple “everyday” schools not Texas Texas A&M types paying at least 20-30M in buyouts and then I’ll believe it.

I could see Pittman getting the boot too if he doesn’t do well this year. I don’t think his buyout is prohibitive either.

Tough gig to be the little brother to the Sooners, under the Longhorns and Aggies for a long stretch (both now in the SEC), 2 losing seasons in 20 year. He will get hired and do well.
VT or UCLA could do worse and Gundy might be willing to take less money while paying staff generously to prove he still got the stuff at a P-4 program at VT now that the Hokie AD said more money is going into the program . Along with Gundy might help VT get more deep pocket boosters because he's there.
UCLA seems to have money problems, but if they can put up bucks into the program and not work on the cheap , the same goes for them.

If I was an AD, and I had an opening at a P5 program such as VT or UCLA, I would give Gundy a shot. Could be he got too comfortable being a Cowboy for over 20 years. He's only 58.

Some names that are being named as possible Gundy replacements

I agree with this statement "Kinne makes a lot of sense."
North Texas' Morris is another good gamble
My not mentioned in this article choice would be Memphis' HC Ryan Silverfield who I see VT going after
if Jon Sumrall of Tulane isn't the main target
Jeff Taylor of UTSA has a $5 milk buyout if he leaves and OKSt might not want to add that too the $15 mil Gundy exit fee. But he has addressed speculation about him taking over by saying he's happy where he is, making me suspicious that he's really ready to go to OKSt if they pay the buyout

After yesterday’s shellacking by ND, Pittman is probably cooked. I read his buyout is 75% and 10M if his record since 2021 is .500 and if it’s below .500 it’s 50% and 7M….it’s all over her life of the contract as is the case most of the time. He’s 29-27 currently. Also that it’s possible he could retire and different negotiated settlement number could be possible.

Mentioned in the games thread how ironic it would be for Petrino to be the HC there again and here we have it. Stay off those motorcycles Bobby lol.

Now this would be unexpected if it happened.

I’m still a little surprised by this but for those that think a horrid season at the Cuse could derail Brown, there’s this. I’m guessing these reporters hear things about who is viable and wanted.

From the article:

ACC: There’s a double whammy coming for Syracuse fans. First, it’s clear that quarterback Steve Angeli’s torn Achilles is a season-killer. Syracuse was just not the same team in a 38-3 home loss to Duke that we saw upset Clemson merely a week ago, and it might be a minor miracle at this point if they get to 6-6. But even if the Orange don’t win another game, Fran Brown will still be among the most desired coaches of this year’s carousel. With at least a half-dozen really good openings competing for a small number of top-tier candidates, Brown will practically be able to name his destination and his price if he wants to leave. Brown has already done enough to improve Syracuse in recruiting, on-field performance and swagger to draw interest from a wide variety of programs. He could leave for a better job in three months and Syracuse wouldn’t even get to celebrate the kind of breakthrough season that usually elevates a coach to those heights.

Some feel SMU's HC Rhett Lashlee should be the next Arkansas HC.
He's from Arkansas , played for the Razorbacks , was a GA there and has proved to be a good HC at SMU.
The question is : will his ties to Arkansas be strong enough to overcome the type of support he sees the SMU football program getting from the school and fanbase ?

I’ve seen that and supposedly Jerry Jones wants him at Arkansas but I’d stay at SMU if I’m him. An easier path to the CFP and all the billionaire support you could ask for lol. He is only 2-2 this year though but that’s after a couple back to back 11 win years.

Hearing a little chatter ( from google search, not persona knowledge)
John Chavis' name is being mentioned to Motorcycle Bobby's DC
Also from that google search
>Further staff changes include Chris Wilson taking over as defensive line coach (he was previously the assistant defensive line coach), Che Hendrix coaching safeties (he was previously the assistant defensive backs coach/high school relations), and Kolby Smith will take on offensive coordinator duties while Petrino continues to call plays during games<

I think each school might come up with their own dynamic, figure out what might work and adapt along the way. I read VT initially was going to hire a GM first then coach but then they thought that might narrow their pool of coaches. So now they will hire a coach first but he may have to share power.

Seems sudden, especially considering Jonathan Smith did not set the Oregon State field on fire in his first few years.
Smith may want to answer the phone if he does not get it going at Michigan State.
I don’t know how MSU’s defense has done since bringing Joe Rossi on board from Minn.

If not good, I could see Smith maybe reunite with Bray who was his DC at Oregon St.

I'd take Rossi over Robb/Sparber. Can't get worse. For that matter, I'd take Martini and Rossi over the current two.
