Could be an explosive hire:

Houston Nutt- there's a name haven't heard in a long while. Permanently sidelined at 54 years old in 2011 bc of recruiting violations? Solid W-L record. Was listening to Andy/Ari pod and they weren't so sure Brian Kelly would land a P4 job.
Also on another pod, I think it was Feldman who said after Patterson got let go from TCU, he thought he had a good chance at either Nebraska and Auburn when really he didn't. Point he was making is that these coaches remember themselves at their peaks not as currently how they may be viewed.
I've heard similar stories from the CFB media in the past about Houston Nutt and Phil Fulmer.
Point being one time big names can land up anywhere if they still have the bug and really want to coach.
You know the saying…..better to have loved and lost than never have loved at all.Is it worse to be FSU and have had a fairly recent taste of success and championships and be where they are now, or to be Rutgers?
Totally agree. One thing I've always wondered is why schools spend a fortune on hiring a firm to help narrow down their next coach (which Maryland just did). I guess there must be more to it than I realize.
But programs always have and always will make bad hires even using these firms, so still not sure about it...

Lincoln Riley, Deion Sanders and Kyle Whittingham: Inside the jobs that could shake up the coaching carousel
Three FBS jobs are open heading into Halloween weekend, and industry sources say a bigger domino could be nextwww.cbssports.com
Rutgers
Despite considerable outside speculation about Greg Schiano's future, multiple industry sources believe the job is less likely to open than the public thinks, at least for now. Schiano's $17 million-plus buyout is more burdensome for the Rutgers athletic department than for many of its Power Four peers, as it faced a $78 million deficit in the 2024-25 fiscal year. Rutgers is 2-5 this season and has a challenging remaining schedule which includes Michigan, Wisconsin and Nebraska.
Don’t know but they did leave themselves an out with the “at least not yet”….gives the impression that a lower threshold of wins might save him.CBS sports has all the inside information - sure. I don't believe word of this.
