Clever stuff right here.

I was pretty fascinated as a kid w/ Radio Shack. They sold radio kits that you could assemble and once completed your received AM signals. Another retailer that struggled with the product mix & new technology.

On a different note, you guys remember the Tandy Corp suing and winning their case when AutoZone was first introduced? They called themselves AutoShack and they were required to change their name at a huge expense. I bought a 67 Mustang from one of the AutoShack, err I mean AutoZone founders.

I'm one of the few people in the world that would still frequent RadioShack for work. When I needed a small electronic component to repair a vintage control board for our plasma equipment, I could usually get something similar or suitable at RadioShack immediately. What I didn't like is their mark-up, but I suppose it was necessary considering their financial struggles. They'd charge $5 for a 20 cent component. They would carry components that were either mfg in the US or at least redistributed and relabeled by a US subsidiary or outfit. Therefore, the nomenclature of the specifications were something I could read and understand.

Now, I have to go to Fry's, and they stock the cheapest of the cheap components made in Cambodia and intended to sell in China. I rarely understand the specs and nomenclature on the packaging. It takes an hour to carefully read each package rather than the 10 seconds it should take to spot the proper markings.

It is kind of a dilemma for retail stores anymore. Quite honestly I use Best Buy....Sears or whomever to do what I would call my window shopping....only to go home and order it with Amazon Prime or other online site.
