I would think kinda the opposite. He's going to want his guy in as bball head coach as well. Easier to whack existing head coaches when there are things like this. Also better to have free scholarships to spend for the new guy. Clear out the team for the new guy. Groce is a goner.

Not so sure Groce is cooked. He's got a nice senior core for next year with Morgan, Nunn and Hill. And if Thorne gets a medical redshirt and Abrams gets healthy and Coleman-Lands keeps getting better, Illini could contend for the NCAAs, which Groce will probably need to achieve.

New guy thinks the Illini are hot ****. Groce is not. Get rid of him now while the fan base is energized on the Lovie move. That's what I would do if I was in the new guy's position. Groce hasn't done crap and the injuries are just a bad excuse.

Thorne likely will not get a redshirt (exceeded NCAA limits) and Abrams is recovering from back-to-back serious injuries (like ACL and an achilles rupture) and hasn't played in 2 years. He's probably spent. Morgan is much improved but he is not a classic center. They desperately need a good point guard. They supposedly have a good class coming in.

According to Whitman, he likes the enthusiasm inside the basketball program (???), realizes they have been hard hit by injuries (no point guard or center), and has given Groce at least another year.

Can you please put the most current number of arrestees in the thread title please? On a day-to-day basis, I have no idea if there is an additional one. I've been assuming there is, and that's worked out fine do far, but they may run out of rostered players unless they resort to repeats.

4 in the last 8 months and counting. From the News-Gazette:

"Nunn’s arrest is the fourth for the Illinois basketball program since August.

Darius Paul was arrested in August in France during the team’s foreign tour, Leron Black was arrested and charged with a felony for allegedly brandishing a knife outside an Urbana night club in February and Tate was arrested last week for misdemeanor domestic battery. The alleged victim in Tate’s case told his attorney he didn’t do it but the charges remain on file against him."
