OT: Anybody ever start a "conversation"/ direct message?

Maybe this is a Lou question?

Supposedly, there is a capability that allows you to communicate privately with other users. I Googled this to death, and I don't see the "Start a Conversation" link that flows off the upper-right envelope or a user's profile page.

Admittedly, I one of the cheapa*s users who doesn't subscribe. Is this a subscriber-only functionality?

I've done it, but the "Start a Conversation" link has always been there for me when I mouse over the envelope next to my handle. I do have access to the Rock, so it's possible it's subscriber only.

But really, whatever you have to say to Turk, you can say to all of us. ;)

Step 1) click on user name. A screen pops up for that user
Step 2) click on Start a Conversation in white lettering in the middle of that screen
Step 3) Type in what you wish to say and click Start a Conversation button

Done!

Yea, you can start a conversation ... by carrier pigeon, Mr. 1983!!
