NCAA needs to wake up and take note on how to handle cheaters.

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id...-aj-hinch-suspended-2020-season-sign-stealing

Astros' Jeff Luhnow, AJ Hinch suspended for 2020 season for sign stealing.

Suspended for a whole season. Pitino got nothing for stripper gate. UNCheats got nothing for academic fraud. Wake up NCAA.

The problem is that stealing signs is threatening the integrity of the game itself. For as bad as strippers were, and yes, it can be seen as some sort of benefit, it didn't actually affect the game, ON the court.

Upholding the integrity of the game is always on the forefront. You can buy strippers, beat your kids, rape women, even kill someone.. and it will never be seen as bad as cheating the game.

Using impermissible benefits to recruit kids is cheating the game.

It is, to an extent. But normal fans don't see it that way. Let's be real, we have harsher optics for our rivals.

Either way, the players are still on the court, playing the game. But when you shave points, spy on other teams, or come up with a system to steal signs.. it causes the fans to distrust the game itself. And above all, a sport or a league can NOT have that happen.

Raw Lewis can kill someone and it really won't affect the NFL. But if Ray Lewis enacted a system to steal playbooks or some ****, that's actually (and unfortunately..) a much bigger issue for the NFL.

Lol.. That's not SLAMMED, their cheating got them a World Series and pay raises, this is a vacation. The 5 million dollar fine will be passed into the fans.

No players involved suspended, meanwhile Pete Rose is still banned.
It looks like Pete Rose will be banned forever. I don't think since his ban there has been another manager that has been accused or caught betting on baseball games. So while Pete paid the price, the punishment seems to have worked.

The advantage a hitter would have if he knew what pitch was coming would be huge.

IMO, this is worse than betting on baseball. Those title(s) should be stripped. Boston is next. Alex Cora orchestrated this at Boston and with the Astros.

Who else is doing it?

UofL showed more guts in firing Pitino than Kansas, LSU and Arizona have shown. May be unpopular, but true.

NCAA hasn't punished anyone...agree 100%.

Rose is banned for life still because Fay Vincent thought Rose's situation killed his best buddy Bart. That info was passed from commissioner to commissioner.

No one has enough balls to lift the ban...total BS.

Seeing as managers mean nothing in baseball I would say that's a pretty tame punishment. Nothing happens to their players who were in on it??? Whatever Yankees are gonna win it all next year don't worry

For those saying the one year suspension is a slap on the wrist, I bet Belicheck and Brady don't get a year and they are repeat offenders. Probably 4 games.

I *loathe* Brady, but he's not apart of Spygate 2.0 and honestly, I bet that won't be able to pin it to Bill B.

The punishment will need to be like the last time they did this, which was fines and loss of draft picks. I see no way the Pats get any less.

Red Sox, Astros, and Patriots all got caught cheating for a title. All got minor punishments compared to the title.

UNC got caught cheating for multiple, nothing

UL got caught cheating for one, and it's gone.

NCAA has a better punishment, they just play favorites

That's my point tho. Patriots are repeat offenders cuz the punishment is worth the risk. 6 superbowls for a few lost draft picks/ suspensions. These "punishments" are slaps on the wrist.

Im a Bengals/ reds fan I'd trade a 1 season ban for the entire team for 1 superbowl/ WS. I'd do it in a heartbeat knowing that's all the punishment would be.

I'm more interested in HOW they cheated.

Watching the catcher on the monitor, players banged on a trash can to send a signal to the hitter.
That's like sending smoke signals. How in the hell did that work? Wouldn't it be a lot easier to hide an earpiece in your batting helmet and just tell them via radio 'fastball inside low'? How the fack would banging on a metal can give the hitter enough time to understand and adjust? Lol.

The bang meant an off speed pitch was coming. No bang...fastball. It was a huge advantage.

Yeah, I’m not understanding how no players are suspended when the system started with them.

Jose Altuve who was mentioned won an MVP and got AP male athlete of the year. Wonder how much money in endorsements that equated to. Cheating pays.

And do you know what Astros fans are saying today: Worth It!

In the last three years, they've won three straight Division titles, went to two World Series, and won a World Series.title. Suffice to say, the payoff was more than worth the punishment.

They need to strip the Astros of all accolades. The guys did lose their jobs, yet Bilichek, Brady and Roy Williams just keep on rolling.

How did no one notice a constant banging trash can?
The banging signal came from a room built UNDERNEATH the Astros concrete dugout so it was faint sound not super loud or noticable to the entire stadium unless listening specifically for it.

Why lift a ban that is consistent with the rules that EVERY player and manager knew? On what basis do you throw out the rules just to appease some fans?

Exactly, and if there's one thing that really infuriates another baseball team it's stealing signs.

No doubt about that. I play amateur baseball and wish someone would tell me what's coming.

I saw two guys in an amateur game go at it because one accused the other of stealing signs. You had two grown men wrestling each other at the pitcher's mound in the middle of the game because of stealing signs.

Who else is doing it?

Like Pete Rose, anyone and everyone involved in this should be banned for life. If you were a player and you had direct knowledge of these actions you deserve to be banished for life. This is beyond egregious. It's not standing at 2nd base and figuring out what signs the catcher is going through. This was a system designed to steal signs.

Lol, baseball threw out the rules for damn near a decade to appease "some fans"...McGwire, Sosa, Bonds ring a bell?

Not to mention the history of baseball is littered with scandals by the most famous of its players...alcoholism, steroids, abuse, amphetamines, you name, baseball has had it.

Listen, I get it, Rose was wrong...however there is no proof that he bet on the Reds to lose and that is the bigger issue IMO.

Regardless, he has served 31 years in banishment for a non-violent crime and could have been a great ambassador to the game. Nothing he did cheated the game and it's legacy and history book like mentioned above.

Some say he has no one to blame but himself...I blame baseball, they don't treat all crimes equally and they've proved it for 150+ years.

Betting on baseball is covered annually by MLB. Every player, every team has that drilled into them. Each person knows the risk they take by gambling on the outcome of games. Rose knew it as a player and he knew it as a manager. He did it anyway. I appreciate his talent and drive but, not his arrogance. Only Reds fans feel he was treated unfairly with the initial ban. That being said, it has been long enough. While it took him about 2 decades or so to acknowledge he actually bet on games, he finally did so. Lift the ban.
