Reds fan. Pete made his bed. His accomplishments should always be honored. Does he deserve a bust? Not a chance.
Betting on baseball is covered annually by MLB. Every player, every team has that drilled into them. Each person knows the risk they take by gambling on the outcome of games. Rose knew it as a player and he knew it as a manager. He did it anyway. I appreciate his talent and drive but, not his arrogance. Only Reds fans feel he was treated unfairly with the initial ban. That being said, it has been long enough. While it took him about 2 decades or so to acknowledge he actually bet on games, he finally did so. Lift the ban.
An even bigger issue regarding "there is no proof that he bet on the Reds to lose..." is that's a completely meaningless argument.Listen, I get it, Rose was wrong...however there is no proof that he bet on the Reds to lose and that is the bigger issue IMO.
NCAA needs to wake up and take note on how to handle cheaters.

Astros' Jeff Luhnow, AJ Hinch suspended for 2020 season for sign stealing.
Suspended for a whole season. Pitino got nothing for stripper gate. UNCheats got nothing for academic fraud. Wake up NCAA.
That, and this ad...Pete Rose should never be allowed into Cooperstown because of his stupid *** Prince Valiant hairdo.

For this to have any validity, Petey would have had to bet the EXACT same amount on each and EVERY game, and the record shows he didn't. Why does this matter? Because the games that he chose not to bet on the Reds would send a huge red flag to gamblers to bet against them, AND worse, it would allow Rose to set up his team to have an even bigger chance to win those games on which he did bet -- in other words, while Rose may not have tried to lose those games he didn't bet, it is entirely probable he certainly didn't do everything he could as a manager to win them...thus affecting the integrity of his managing.
For instance, let's say it's a game Rose isn't betting and his starter gets clobbered right off the bat. Rose leaves him in far longer than he ordinarily would (why not, he's not gonna lose any money should they go on to lose), but eventually the Reds claw back to tie the game. In the 8th inning, Rose brings in a scrub (instead of his top closer) who gives up a walk and two hits and the Reds subsequently lose. However, Rose has now positioned himself to have his best reliever fresh for the next day's game...a game that he is going to bet big on the Reds.
He should stay permanently banned from the Hall for being a complete dumbass because he willingly chose to break baseball's only unpardonable sin. He could have snorted enough coke clog a thousand Dysons, he could have drank enough booze to pickle a herd of elephants, he could have screwed enough whores to populate his own country, and he could have bet his last dime on any other f#cking sport on the planet, and he would still be in the Hall of Fame...but that arrogant, ignorant moron chose to take his chances by betting he could get away with gambling on baseball.
He lost that bet [laughing].
