Real punishment would be they start each game down 2-0 next year payback for putting other teams at a disadvantage

Betting on baseball is covered annually by MLB. Every player, every team has that drilled into them. Each person knows the risk they take by gambling on the outcome of games. Rose knew it as a player and he knew it as a manager. He did it anyway. I appreciate his talent and drive but, not his arrogance. Only Reds fans feel he was treated unfairly with the initial ban. That being said, it has been long enough. While it took him about 2 decades or so to acknowledge he actually bet on games, he finally did so. Lift the ban.

I get your point. Lots of emotions tied with Rose as he is a hometown guy.

My overarching point is not only has MLB condoned other egregious behavior, but they may have very well perpetuated it during the long ball/steroid era of the game.

So the same league/commission that harps on betting because they can, also turns a blind eye to guys committing other questionable acts AND falsifies their own record book by allowing players to turn the game into RBI baseball.

Point is MLB has always been shady....I love baseball, but it has been run by a bunch of clowns for decades.

Strip the Astros of their title. Ban or suspend players or maybe the whole damn team. Cheating is wrong. Period.

Listen, I get it, Rose was wrong...however there is no proof that he bet on the Reds to lose and that is the bigger issue IMO.
An even bigger issue regarding "there is no proof that he bet on the Reds to lose..." is that's a completely meaningless argument.

For this to have any validity, Petey would have had to bet the EXACT same amount on each and EVERY game, and the record shows he didn't. Why does this matter? Because the games that he chose not to bet on the Reds would send a huge red flag to gamblers to bet against them, AND worse, it would allow Rose to set up his team to have an even bigger chance to win those games on which he did bet -- in other words, while Rose may not have tried to lose those games he didn't bet, it is entirely probable he certainly didn't do everything he could as a manager to win them...thus affecting the integrity of his managing.

For instance, let's say it's a game Rose isn't betting and his starter gets clobbered right off the bat. Rose leaves him in far longer than he ordinarily would (why not, he's not gonna lose any money should they go on to lose), but eventually the Reds claw back to tie the game. In the 8th inning, Rose brings in a scrub (instead of his top closer) who gives up a walk and two hits and the Reds subsequently lose. However, Rose has now positioned himself to have his best reliever fresh for the next day's game...a game that he is going to bet big on the Reds.

He should stay permanently banned from the Hall for being a complete dumbass because he willingly chose to break baseball's only unpardonable sin. He could have snorted enough coke clog a thousand Dysons, he could have drank enough booze to pickle a herd of elephants, he could have screwed enough whores to populate his own country, and he could have bet his last dime on any other f#cking sport on the planet, and he would still be in the Hall of Fame...but that arrogant, ignorant moron chose to take his chances by betting he could get away with gambling on baseball.

He lost that bet [laughing].

La Russa accused now. Wonder if we’ll be replacing 90% of coaches in the MLB in the next year. Yankees accused as well.

I reckon the Reds are safe in this scandal with decades of losing. If they aren't, well they've done a piss poor job at it lol

I saw where they were interviewing Dusty Baker. Anyone else think if they were forced to hire and keep him as manager for 5 years it would go a long way towards being an adequate punishment?

absolutely phenomenal take. I loved Pete growing up. I have zero issues with him being on MLB’s blacklist.

A lot of people seem to be totally clueless to the fact that Rose requested his lifetime ban, in exchange for MLB completely and permanently halting its investigation into his gambling. John Dowd's still pissed over it, since he swears that his investigation was close to exposing Rose as having bet on the Reds to lose.

And just a reminder for those who continue to support this scumbag, let's not forget that he abused his position to repeatedly rape at least one girl who was under 16. She testified to it under oath, and his only defense was that he thought that she was older.

"Michael Bertolini told us, you know, he not only ran bets, but ran young girls down at spring training, ages 12 to 14. Isn't that lovely? So that's statutory rape every time you do that." - John Dowd

The internet wins again. Astros are the filth of baseball for years to come. But the victims aren't so clear. Dodgers? If anyone from that post season has an axe to grind against the Astros it is the Yankees, lost in 7 games, each game going to the home team, Astros had the home field advantage.

In the WS, Dodgers had the home field advantage and won game 4 at Houston.

The point here being the Astros sign stealing system was limited to home games played at Minute Maid park. It should also be noted that Houston won MORE games on the road in 2017 (53 games, 101 total wins). Two of Houston's home series were played elsewhere (Tropicana) because of hurricane Harvey. The Astros effectively had up to 6-7 fewer home games than the rest of MLB in 2017.

None of this is to diminish the nature of the malfeasance, which is real. It is a moral crime against the sport. It is up to individuals to decide if it is as significant as other crimes, such as when the Cardinals organization hacked into the Astros network (2013-2014 ) and stole proprietary information. This resulted in the St. Louis Cardinals losing 2 draft picks directly to the Astros, a 1.5 million dollar fine, and an executive within the Cardinals being sent to prison.

Nobody from the Astros is going to prison. They got caught doing something more deliberately that everyone does with a runner on 2nd anyway. Worst however, is their actions create a new distrust among fans, mostly against their organization but also towards the game. Players throughout MLB have every right to be pissed. Fans too.

They were reading MLB Promos at the end of the Loserville game on ESPN tonight. Dick Vitale calling on the banner to come down for the Astros because of the obvious/crazy evidence of cheating. Noticeably silent on UNCheat, Kansas, DOOK, etc. Flaming Hypocrite.
