Okay, here is the update.. couldn't go yesterday, but put on the space suit today and calmly approached the hive.
Not much drama today. I placed the trap very close to the entrance and dusted their entrance crack with the powdered cinnamon. There were a couple of bees that came to check me out when i first approached the nest. One on each side of my head, buzzing around.. it's very un nerving, even in the suit, because apparently you can get stung through the suit. I tried very hard to maintain a calmness to what i was doing. I said 'hello bees', not sure why but i was coming in peace.
Started dusting the far side and they didn't like it, but they didn't react to it violently, or at least they didn't perceive me as the one or the cause of the cinnamon.. They got a little bit agitated after I did like a quick 10-15 pumps of the duster, its' a very fine mist, so after that, i backed down off the ladder as it was enough to spook me that i might have to run.. but I ended up letting it be for today. will see if any make it into the trap. I'll probably have to cut open this thing with the multi-tool, but see how it goes tomorrow
Edit: watching from the window, I can see approx 10-15 bees hovering around the entrance, but they don't want to go in. Other bees seem to go in and out with no effect, but the ones who go out looking for pollen and return, are not wanting to go into the hive. I don't see much interest in the trap.
