Little known but my favorite cover:

Anything based on The Postal Service is awesome. Iron and Wine is hit or miss for me. He has some really great stuff, and then some stuff I've heard that's just "eh," but I guess that happens with most artists.

You might like Joseph Arthur, as well. Just some GREAT work, and a bunch of stuff that's so-so. Either way, it's all good!

Here's a fun cover of The District Sleeps Alone Tonight, by Chris McCarrell and his brother, at 54 Below in NYC. My daughter is in love with him. He's done a number of things, including playing Percy Jackson in The Lightening Thief musical.

Postmodern Jukebox does a lot of great covers. Here’s one of John Lennon’s “Imagine” that is very cool. You have to give it some time to get going.

Have heard of them, but didn't know their music. Just sampled several songs - great stuff! Here's the funny coincidence. Just yesterday a friend of mine posted about the Camp Anarchy 3-day punk festival in Columbus Ohio in June and he listed the Bronx as one of the bands he wanted to see most. My top picks for the festival are probably Rancid, the Damned, X and Bad Religion - need to convince my wife and son to make the road trip.

I saw The Damned in Hong Kong a couple years ago. Amazing show. Played for an hour and a half then came out for an encore and played another hour and a half.

Went backstage and had beers with them after the show. My buddy was friends with the promoter. Great guys.

Dinosaur Jr. — Just Like Heaven

I saw them awhile ago. Great cover!

Love Dinosaur Jr. Have seen them three times - J. Mascis is such an amazing guitarist. The original version of Just Like Heaven, by the Cure, was one of our 3 wedding songs, along with BAD's E=mc2 (the song that Matt Pinfield was playing at the Melody the night we met) and Unbearable by the Wonder Stuff. Matt also arranged my proposal to my girlfriend on stage at the Fastlane at a Wonder Stuff show and he DJ-ed our "punk rock picnic" wedding. He's truly a prince of a guy.

One of my favorite songs from when I was younger covered by Dinosaur Jr...

Late to this thread. Cortez The Killer is my favorite tune. I must have at least a dozen live versions of Neil doing it.
While the version you linked is O.K., it's not nearly the best cover of the tune.
Warren Haynes version is better...especially the one with Sonny Landreth.
JMascis also did an awesome cover of the tune.
And #3 would probably be The Dave Matthews Band.
All live performances of course.
Oh, and Widespread Panic does a pretty good cover of the tune as well.

It's not Neil (maybe my favorite song of his - especially the live version on Live Rust), but it's very nicely done - will definitely download.
Check out Warren Haynes cover with special guest Sonny Landreth at a jazz festival in New Orleans...I think it was 2014.
It's on the UTubes.:pimp:

Most of the best covers have already been mentioned here.
My top five would be:
1. Jimi Hendrix...."All Along The Watchtower"
2. The Allman Brothers Band...."You Don't Love Me"
3. Janis Joplin....."Ball And Chain"
4. Jeff Buckley...."Hallelujah"
5. Sinead O'Connor..."Nothing Compares 2 U"

I'm sure I'll remember some later that I should have included.

I haven't read through all of these but one (at least in concert) is Bruce performing Mitch Ryder's? (et al?) "Detroit Melody" ("Devil with the Blue Dress On"/CC Rider, yada). Bruce also does a great job with Tom Waits' "Jersey Girl" but it isn't a favorite of mine.

I'm thinking "Guns N Roses" here but I forget. One I heard on the radio recently (a classic) is The Jackson 5 (Michael Jackson) and "Rockin Robin".

Hendrix and "Watchtower" is good. Lots of groups have covered nicely inc Pearl Jam and the Dave Matthews Band I bELieve.

The Guns N Roses cover i think I was thinking of was Bob Dylans "Knocking on Heaven's Door"-just a heavenly kick-*ss version. Incredible guitar and piano. They also go a great job on Paul McCartney/Wings "Live and Let Die".

One of my personal in concert favorites (a concert staple-the original is also heavenly and great) is Jimmy Buffett's version of CSNY's "Southern Cross"

I like John Eddie's cover of Honkey Tonk Women when he invites the girls in the audience to come up and sing/dance.

Note to Piscataway Mike and brother Tom-ya gotta take me to more JE concerts! (I've never seen JE play this cover though I haven't seen JE all that many times.

By the way (and I bELieve Piscataway Mike has always mentioned) I love JE's version of Elvis' "Suspicious Minds". My favorite (though no expert) JE song along with "Dream House".

2) Poison-PNC Bank Arts Center- Poison did a tour with a kick butt set of others' covers late last decade.
3) Green Day-PNC Bank Arts Center-ended a wonderful show with numerous kick butt covers.

anything Heart does of Led Zeppelin but this is a dead ringer...they did this when they called themselves the Lovemongers in the early 90s and it was on the iconic Singles Soundtrack

Were Having a Party was written by the great Sam Cooke

Big Joe Henry often plays the original
