Pete Rose has been removed from the ineligible list finally! I have waited for this day since I wrote a paper in college about why he should in fact be in the HOF. Now he can finally get the recognition he rightfully deserves. The same needs to be done for the greats of the steroid era. I don’t care if a separate wing needs to be built, steroids were widespread enough that it’s hard to pick and choose who did them and who didn’t. The best players of all time deserve to be in the hall, it diminishes the HOF itself leaving out the absolute greatest players IMHO.

I know many Reds and baseball fans have waited for this day for a long time. I wish they would have done it while he had a chance to see it at least.

I think it's real ****** it took him dying before them doing something about this. I'm no reds fan but that man deserved to be in the Hall Of Fame a long long time ago for his accomplishments on the field! Now I saw something if they die or something to that effect that if they are banned the ban will be lifted. I also remember Trump meeting with the commissioner in April so maybe this had a little to do with him lifting the ban.

Apparently the commish met with Rose’s longtime lawyer and child as well. They finally convinced him that he is dead so why hold it against him now.

I still think that Trump meeting in April had a lot to do with it he was going to pardon Rose had he not got reinstated. So I think Trump was the ultimate factor here in getting this done.

I knew this is what the weasels would do. Pete said himself that if he couldn't have the honor while he was alive he didn't want it at all. Marty Brenneman (sp) has said its an insult to put Pete in the hall posthumously and that his family should turn it down. I have mixed emotions. I want him there, where he belongs but doing it this way is disgusting and will always leave me angry.

I despise everyone involved in keeping Pete out of the hall.

I think an overlooked part of this saga is that the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum is independent of MLB. They had to pass a rule that said players on the MLB permanently ineligible list could not be elected to the Hall of Fame. They did this only after Rose was banned. It was targeted at him. I’ve always found that to be disgraceful.

Speaking of baseball @bbnkat02 The Braves have hit .500 finally! They battled back strong. Hopefully they keep on this pace and get about 10-15 games over .500 by the all star break.

The fact that there was a baseball hall of fame without Pete Rose in it was ridiculous in every way. Pete should have been inducted years ago and it's a shame it didn't happen until after he was gone. Pete is my favorite player of all time; I've never seen anyone play harder.

Given that pro and college sports have openly embraced the gambling industry in the last 5 years or so this makes sense. Why continue to punish Rose and Jackson for doing something they are now openly encouraging everyone to do on their games. I've seen about a thousand FanDuel adds during games this year. I also would like them to unseal the report Bart Giamati ordered sealed on Rose at the time of the ban,so people can see what he actually did.Tons of rumors and speculation about the situation can finally be put to rest.

Braves are looking good. I can't get super excited about the cardinals 9 game win streak. I feel like the NL is rigged to be the dodgers world and everyone else just living n it.

Pete rose the talent of a generation and mlb gives him a death sentence. I’ve been disgusted with mlb for years. They allowed guys to play and set records while juiced up while Pete who served his time imo 10 year ban max, instead they turned it into a lifetime ban for a man who would have been a great marketer of the game. I’ve long stopped watching bb. Banning Pete is what did it for me. I hope this conforts his family but as a fan of Pete’s and pre mid nineties steroids and the shutdown just before matt Williams was about to break Maris record clean. Pete should have been apart of the game mlb would be 3x what it is today. I hope Pete ends up in cooperstown for all of us who grew up watching the goat of gen z in a sport with lots of great players.

I get Pete gambled on baseball, but that was after his playing days. That shouldn't diminish what he did on the field. He should have definitely been punished, but keeping him out of the HOF, was stupid.
I remember when he was placed in prison. At the time, they claimed tax evasion/gambling but I always felt like there was some drug related charges associated w/ Tommy Gioiosa.

Pete Rose never cared about being in the Hall of Fame. He cared about being able to work in baseball again. That’s why he lied for so many years.

Pete Rose was an outstanding baseball player. One of the best to ever play.

He was also a terrible human being. I don’t believe in celebrating terrible human beings imho.

Man the Dodgers feel like a cheat code at this point. Baseball needs a salary cap so bad. It’s ridiculous the Dodgers can literally sign any FA they want. I hated that the Braves lost Max Fried and he’s crushing it this year for the Yankees. Another cheater feeling squad along with Mets. Those markets create so much more revenue than even a big market like Atlanta it’s crazy. Kansas City and Cincinnati can’t even approach the Braves.

Here is the thing though. The baseball HOF is not based on what they were like as human beings. It’s not the Hall of Great Character. It’s based on the best play and he was one of the best.

How was he a terrible human being? He played as hard as he did for the fans. Someone who plays that hard risking his entire career/life for someone else isn't a bad human being.

It's supposed to be based, in part, on who they are as human beings. The official rules state:

5. Voting: Voting shall be based upon the player's record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character and contributions to the team(s) on which the player played.

And for those who don't know, Rose admitted to a sexual relationship with a girl who was at the oldest 16 and at the youngest 14 when he was in his 30s. If voters wanted to use that as a reason to keep him out because of the character clause that seems perfectly reasonable to me.

I disagree. He bet on baseball games and very likely on games he was involved in. I see it like I see the Bonds situation too in that neither should be in. Yes I grew up a Reds fan.

Trying really hard at baseball is honestly a weird criteria for what you think makes for a good person. Take away that he was a lot of people’s childhood hero, and I kind of doubt it would even be a debate that a degenerate gambler and habitual liar who admitted to having a sexual relationship with an underage girl while he was a married 30 something with the excuse that he thought she was 16 was not a very good person.

What people don’t realize is that Rose was in discussions with MLB at one time to lift his Hall of Fame ban. One of the things they wanted was him to not do any of his memorabilia signing stuff in connection with casinos anymore.

Rose got out of that meeting…and immediately went and did a signing at a casino. It was a slap in the face to MLB and they said “fine. No deal”

16 is age of consent in many states. My grandma was married at 16 to my grandpa at 21 and they were married 50 plus years until he died. Who cares what people do with their own money if they gamble? Doesn't affect me. You have examples of him lying to MLB because he wanted reinstated. That doesn't make him habitual. Im sure we've all lied to our job or our bosses at some point. Doesn't mean we go home to our family/kids and start lying to them.
