I am happy for his family. They sought reinstatement by filing the papers in January, met with Manfred then too and asked for a decision prior to tonight when he is honored with Pete Rose night at GABP. With that said, if they were seeking his reinstatement, I am sure HOF is next on their minds.

I'm still not sure he will make it in. Just because he's being reinstated, doesn't mean he won't get in and I'm not sure the baseball writers will do it...especially right away.

As for the PED guys, they are all able to be in the HOF. McGwire had his last shot at being voted in by the writers in 2016 when he got 12.3% of the vote. Bonds reached 66% in 2022, but is no longer on the ballot. Bonds and McGwire will not have to depend on the MLB Era Committee to get in.

Rose going into the HOF won't be entirely at the discretion of the sportswriters. The Classic Baseball Era Committee will be deciding the cases of these players. The committee also consists not just veteran media members, but players, executives and managers that are from that era. Those names on the most recent committee included ones such as Hall of Famers Paul Molitor, Eddie Murray, Tony Perez, Lee Smith, Ozzie Smith, and Joe Torre. Executives Sandy Alderson, Terry McGuirk, Dayton Moore, Arte Moreno and Brian Sabean. They will convene in 2027 when they meet again to first vote on Rose and the others that came off the ban list yesterday. This is the fairest way to do it adding your peers, respected names who were directly involved in the game as a player, manager and in the FO, veteran media members when so many sportswriters have egos and hold grudges.

Like many others here, I grew up during the era of the Big Red Machine and all that it entailed. Listened to hundreds if not a couple thousand Reds games on AM radio in the 70’s and 80’s. Despite Rose knowing the rule against betting on baseball, he gave the finger to the league and the fanbase by repeatedly wagering on games. Seemed to me his only real regret was getting caught. But for Donald Trump, Rose is still banned.

I think it's real ****** it took him dying before them doing something about this. I'm no reds fan but that man deserved to be in the Hall Of Fame a long long time ago for his accomplishments on the field! Now I saw something if they die or something to that effect that if they are banned the ban will be lifted. I’d tell them to F off if I was his family. It is absolutely reprehensible that they didn’t make him eligible before he passed. For the last 30+ years he has jumped thru every hoop & has said & done the right things, for the most part. But, nothing was ever enough & MLB kept dangling that carrot, regardless. To the point that Pete became a punchline, of sorts.

The hypocrites at MLB never had a problem displaying Pete’s record breaking bats, balls, jerseys, hats, etc. They probably got a sick thrill by displaying them & giving Pete more false hope. NOBODY loves/loved baseball more than Pete Rose. And, NOBODY played harder. In ANY sport.

He only bet on his team to win. That shouldn’t go unpunished. But, that really doesn’t hurt the game’s integrity like if he had bet on them to lose. Ban him from managing. Suspend him for 5 years. Fine him $100K. All those would be more appropriate for his crime.

Banning him completely for 30+ years, other than the cpl of occasions that MLB could benefit from his appearance, & letting him die before exonerating him, was just cruel & despicable. A posthumous gesture is a slap in the face, considering what that man endured.

There are rapists, murderers, drug dealers, etc in the HOF. It’s not like the HOF has standards to uphold. But, it was personal against Pete, IMO. This bs has made me wish I wasn’t a baseball fan. I loathe MLB for this. I still watch the Reds, for now. But, that’s it. They won’t get a penny of mine for the foreseeable future, if ever again.

Pete Rose has been removed from the ineligible list finally! I have waited for this day since I wrote a paper in college about why he should in fact be in the HOF. Now he can finally get the recognition he rightfully deserves. The same needs to be done for the greats of the steroid era. I don’t care if a separate wing needs to be built, steroids were widespread enough that it’s hard to pick and choose who did them and who didn’t. The best players of all time deserve to be in the hall, it diminishes the HOF itself leaving out the absolute greatest players IMHO.

I know many Reds and baseball fans have waited for this day for a long time. I wish they would have done it while he had a chance to see it at least.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. They should have given him his day in the sun while he could have enjoyed or at least seen it. He deserved it with his career achievements. Like you said, they had no problem displaying his stuff all those years.

The way every sport promotes gambling now, it’s a joke to use that against a player. Maybe if he bet on his own team to lose, shaved points, or threw games on purpose I could see it. Unless they can prove that what do I care if he bet on other teams.

Congress is made up of a bunch of insider traders and I’ve never seen one of them get audited or charged with a crime.

Larkin's stories about Rose last night were great. Loved how he talked about his first day in the big leagues dealing with weather delays at the airport, arrived late to the game and Pete let him know about it. I made that argument (about Bonds and Clemens) on the MLB page on Facebook, and got a “like” to my reasoning from Ryne Sandberg (yes Ryno). I thought that was pretty cool.

If so, he should not get in, he would have incentives to alter the games. Did he be that his team would win? If so, I don’t really care. If he bet on games he wasn’t directly involved in, I don’t care. Betting against your team would be a deal breaker for me.
Other betting seems more minor to me than steroid use which is cheating and has an impact on winning and stats.

IMO Pete Rose should be voted into the Hall of Fame by unanimous vote. It is a shame he is dead and could not experience it while on this earth.

He bet on the Reds, but never against them is what he says. The report that came out said he bet on them 52 times, including games in which he was a player and played in the game.

I see some people saying he never bet when he was a player, but he did at the end of his career.
