Personally I'm not a fan but don't think it's that big a deal. Think it gives people something to complain about or an opportunity to talk about how they're above that.

To the earlier post around 23 year olds too senior to do things, augh, that &@$& is for real and is absurd.

They've implemented open offices in a few new buildings where I work and most of the people I know don't really like them. I'm in a laboratory building with offices ringing the central labs, so there's really no way they could ever go to an open office concept here, meaning I'll retain my director's plush office (about 15'x15' with a small conference table for about 4), which I've had for the last 12 years, for my last year of work. I'm ok with that, as I like the office.

I was in PIMCO’s Manhattan office about 5 years ago, completely open office except for the main higher ups. My understanding is in their headquarters (Newport Beach CA) even Bill Gross was in the open office environment.

Exactly, it is often based on culture how successful it will be. A government agency I deal with moved a portion of their office to open office and the employees told me it was extremely challenging for the people who had been there for a long time, but they’ve adapted. Overall the unit is actually much more productive, but has had a significant infusion of young workers who embrace the open office concept.

I spend a good amount of time in different WeWorks and different locations have different vibes, but in the good ones I find myself having amazing productivity just working off of my laptop in a lounge area and I absolutely loathe working on my laptop without an additional monitor.

At the end of the day, people just like to find things to complain about.
