Saban's like Calipari...both has had a fling with the pro game, both flopped, both came back to college, both are nearing retirement. Stay where you are.

If he wins it this year....the opportunity to coach Andrew Luck can be very appealing...the ulitimate prize in football is the Lombardi Trophy.

Both Cal and Saban are super competitive with big egos. I am sure it eats at them that their stint in the pros wasn't successful. I could see both of them giving it one more go.

Alabama boosters paid the man's house off. He's near the end of the road, and has every bit of potential to pass the Bear up as the greatest coach that Alabama's ever had, if not the best college football coach ever. You're naive if you think he's just going to up and leave for the NFL, especially just for the chance to coach Andrew Luck.

The lure of the NFL is very strong and remember he spent a lot of years as a NFL Coach...plus in that Division with Luck he has a easy road to the playoffs...again..if Irsay gives him the control he wants and $$$ I can easily see him doing it...Coaches with ego all want the Lombardi...

"My life is here." - Nick Saban

"No, I really don't. I don't see it ever happening, and I know every year somebody has me going somewhere else," Saban told ESPN.com in a wide-ranging interview. "I think a lot of it isn't just about the coaching part. What people don't understand is they forget you're a person. They forget you have a wife and two kids and a grandbaby, and they all live in Birmingham.

"They all work here. My wife goes to Birmingham five times a week. My mom lives in Birmingham now after moving from Myrtle Beach. It's not just the job. A lot of people don't get that. My life is here."

The older you get your perspective on what is and what isn't a prize changes. Those with the most toys don't always win and in climbing the ladder of success, when you get to the top, you might find you've had it up against the wrong wall all along. Both Cal and Saban have more than enough financial compensation and accolades to boot. I'm not saying neither will jump to pro sports but a certain contentment with who you are, what you are best at and other factors come into play they can often trump what is considered the ultimate prize in anything; those prizes can be often illusionary!

Coaches are going to deny any rumor that comes up. I never expect a coach to say, "Yeah, I would think about leaving". I'm not saying he will, but it wouldn't shock me if he did.

True to a certain extent....but remember Pete Carroll was 59 when he left USC for Seattle...also, someone mentioned ownership...Irsay for the most part for the last 16 years has had teams in the Post Season and in a couple of Super Bowls...last year in the AFC Title Game...not saying he leaving Bama but if offered what he would want would be very interesting.

They will give him full control as the Eagles gave Chip Kelly. The Colts have Luck, Hilton, and some good offensive players. I think he stays, but being a college coach could be tiresome. Having to deal with the NCAA rules and all of that. In pro sports basically you a coaching grown men. Will Saban style work in the NFL? It's a different world sitting in a living room and lying to a 17 year old kid, as opposed to looking 30 year old millionaire men in the eye.

You don't just look at the players, you look at the owners. He doesn't risk his career to work under a pill addicted drug dealer.

Irsay went to rehab and is clean now. If Saban doesn't come to Indy that won't be the reason why

Saban wants to take a pay cut to go to the NFL? I'm thinking that is a big fat NO. He like Cal has it made. They did something that is almost unheard of in college sports. They figured out the recruiting riddle that so flummoxed college recruiters for decades. The kids want to play for both coaches. That is unheard of in college sports for the most part

That's probably the best job available with Andrew Luck. I would think he would be on their short list but it would have to come with total control.

I agree, there is always that possibility. Pete Carroll was leaving USC one way or another due to the situation though and that has to be taken into consideration. Irsay is egomaniac enough to throw everything at the person he wants. I was just making the point that quite often your "wants" change over time. As they say, "never say never."

So I guess the Lombardi is the reason Petrino left UL. And Pete Carrol went to Seattle after he put USC on probation.

He's 64 years old. Family rooted in B'ham. Money is no issue. King of an entire state. Who wants the headache of starting over? Very little to gain compared to what he'd be giving up.

Petrino, Jimmy Johnson, Steve Spurrier, Dennis Erickson, Butch Davis, Mike Riley, Jim Harbaugh & Chip Kelly...fact is the Lombardi > Crystal Ball

I'd rather coach Alabama, he's been there done that, besides those pro's can get mad and not listen and get you fired, they might not like his all business attitude, what amount of money would make you make such a foolish move, that's laughable, him going to the colts.

Maybe not in Alabama but in that profession-(coaching) it is...not even saying he going to leave but with the success of the Colts this Century and with Luck worth a listen
Speculative at best. I'd say NFL money has more to do with it than the title. In how many of those cases you listed above did the coach take a pay cut just to chase a Lombardi? I'm gonna take a stab in the dark and say zero.

Saban make $7 Million currently for Alabama....the other coach on their list is Sean Payton who currently makes $8 Million for New Orleans...if they go after both I can pretty much say they are willing to pay the $$$

I say if he wins it this year and the Colts offer him a gold mine and a lot of control, I say he takes it. I mean guys wait years and years for a franchise QB, the most important aspect of any team sport, a Franchise QB, a franchise QB that has been short handed in talent and playmakers in regards to Manning's teams at Indy.
Andrew has taken the Colts who talent wise are more akin to Titans and Jags than Manning Colts.

Luck has been anointed best QB since Elway to come down pike, Indy has been in playoffs last 2-3 years.
He may be happy at Alabama but he wants to be like his mentor Belichik and win on that level. He could have every agreement to control personnel and such but he will never get a QB like Luck, never. Luck is 25 or so. He has 10-12 years of great play ahead of him.

I personally think Saban is irked by Dolphins experience and wants to go back and prove wrong. I think Luck and Indy would be the only one I would worry about if I was Bama fan.

Cal and family did not like NBA grind, Lebron is on back side of his career, Anthony Davis being top 2-3 player in league does not guarantee success.

I think if Indy comes calling than Nick will listen, The franchise QB means everything, the fact that they are not awful when healthy, I honestly thinks he looks at it.
IMO

Cal said he can impact more lives and move form object poverty at college level. He says that is his goal now.
NFL Franchise QB means everything, in 2 years Saban would have defense to win it all with Luck.

You also forget that Cal says routinely the UK job ages people ver fast. Cal has said he's aged a lot at UK. It doesn't matter how much on-court success you are having if you're constantly under the microscope and have unrealistic expectations put on you all the time.

Don't believe Cal "has it made". His life is not a walk in the park like you and some others attest. He works constantly and is questioned constantly.

I think you've missed my point. I have no doubt that INdy would up the ante to try and get their man. I'm asking you to qualify your statement that a Lombardi > Crystal Ball by pointing to any coach that has left an NCAA position to take less money from the NFL simply to fulfill the desire to place a Lombardi on their mantle. My point being, most coaches make the jump from NCAA to NFL simply for the increase in money, not the lure of the sacred Lombardi. Bear Bryant, Joe Pa, Bowden, Hayes, Osborne...some of the greatest coaches ever that won NCAA titles and never coached in the NFL. Point being, some off the greatest coaches to coach the game knew where their bread was buttered and had no need for the Lombardi or the NFL's money.

You ever listen to a Saban post-game interview at Bama? The disdain in his voice when he gets questioned about any decision? The way he can crush a reporter for improper phrasing? And you think he'd like to jump from the frying pan into the fire for just another Mil/year and the off chance that INdy can build a D and Luck won't go down?

If they win it this year and with Saban competitive nature i can see him wanting one more shot at the highest level of football. A job may be opening with the most important position already set with maybe the most talented player in the league.

That is the one thing he didnt have at Miami and many ppl forget he spent years as a coach in the NFL...Something Joe Pa, Bear Bryant, Tom Osbourne did not do.

So, b/c Bill tolerates it means Saban will or wants to at age 64? And to answer your question, no, I don't remember. I don't do NFL. I'm from one of those southern states that has never had an NFL affiliation and why the NCAA rules there and most of the south.

Coaches at all levels go off on the media...Saban is no different than his former boss....but in Football the NFL trumps everything...that not really even debatable...TV Ratings..$$$$ generated...Super Bowl a National Holiday...etc...etc
