Dabo Swinney would be a the hire they make, so they would be just fine. The days of DuBose, Franchione and Shula are behind them with Dabo in the wings. He's only 46 years old.

Dabo would definately be forced to say no. I agree.

Payton is excellent. So is Saban. Miami did not want to lose Saban to Bama. Not sure upon what metric someone could say Payton is the better coach.

For the NFL level not really debatable IMO...Not many Super Bowl winning coaches still active...Belichick, Jon Harbaugh, Mike Tomlin & Payton...that it...Saban at the NFL level was just below .500...great College Coach...NFL still debatable.

Again, Saban took over a bad team and that team wanted him to stay.

I guess I could say it is not debatable that Saban is better than Payton, for college. Not debatable.

Both took over bad teams in the NFL...Parcells said it best...in the NFL you are what your record says you are and his 2 year record was 15-17...Even compare it to Marvin Lewis...his 2 year record after taking over the Bengals when they were coming off a 2-14 season was 16-16 his first two year in Cincinnati

Payton took over a 3-13 team and 1st year went 10-6

With such a weak division the Colts job is one of the best in the NFL. Any coach with half of a brain should never miss the playoffs. Add to the fact that you'll have Luck and all of those playmakers on offense and you're primed for a Super Bowl for the next 2-3 years

Yep. Bama has a superstar coach waiting in the wings, the day Saban leaves Dabo will be down there. He just might go back to back if they win this year, because they are stacked again next season.

I read a long piece about him about a month ago. Long story short, I suspect he may be more deeply invested in and committed to Clemson than a lot of people think. Not a sure thing at all IMO.

Stupid thread, was never gonna happen. Good for the Colts keeping their HC...would have been dumb to fire him after one mediocre/injury plagued season.

Yes and No...someone floated this out to the National Media...would not be surprised if Jimmy Sexton told Irsay he wasn't interested and or the Colts didn't want to give the Saints Draft picks.

The thing with Pagano was crazy to me...but he been rumored on the Hot Seat since last year AFC TItle Game

Never was an issue. So, it cannot be mooted.

Became somewhat an issue with it was out there in the National Media..his name was floated and discussed by NFL Insiders like Schfeter and Mortenson along with CBS NFL Insider Will Brinson...most thought Pagano was gone today...

The only thing I suggested that Payton was a better NFL Coach at the NFL Level over Saban..Payton had a winning record in his first two years after taking over a 3-13 team...Saban had a sub .500 record...Payton went on to win a Lombardi Trophy and over 80 NFL Games...it is what it is....

Gene Stallings and 1992 say 'Hi.'

You know what's funny, though? Auburn has 3 undefeated seasons in the modern era and not a damned thing to show for 2 of them.

Because they got absolutely cheated in 2004. Cadillac and Brown were unstoppable and the NCAA decided they shouldn't compete for a championship.

This is why college football was an absolute Joke before the playoff exams in.

Barn had the 60th ranked SOS (Sagarin) that year. You reward that with a shot at a title?

USC had the 7th and Sooners had 13th. Both undefeated. Good call in my book. The 2 best teams played for the title.

It been reported they did have discussions with the Saints/Payton before reupping with Pagano
Really doesn't make me feel any better that they tried one coach, failed, then gave the loser they wanted to replace a 4 year extension. What sense does that make? I really thought (or hoped) they'd write Harbaugh a blank check and try to reunite him with Luck

If I was a Colt fan the bigger issue is the GM...but it is apparent the reason for Luck early success was Bruce Arians now with Arizona

You're right Grigson is a joke. All the receivers we have and we draft a receiver in the first round that backs up Hilton. Meanwhile Luck is getting pummeled behind a makeshift offensive line. We have the oldest defense in the league. Piss poor management from to top down to be honest. We're just lucky that our division is awful every year. I'd give anything to get Arians back

If you're making the argument that they were not clearly, clearly the best team in the land in 2004, you'd be wrong. I couldn't care less about that BS SOS. The Pac10 was overrated as hell.

I hate aurbun btw and believe without a doubt they are the dirtiest program in the history of the NCAA. Anyone that hires no name "system" guys at the rate they do is keeping it For a reason. Add to it the bammer complex, and it's a rap.

Don't care how good they were, La-Monroe, MSU, Citadel, Arky, UK and Ole Miss all had losing records that year and La-Tech was 6-6. That was 7 of 12 games against opponents at .500 or worse. Could have hung half a hundred on every team and still did not deserve to play for title.
