DevilDJ I totally agree. And I don't say this as a dis to K, but because of how much I admire him. I believe he is a great man. But, to quote Uncle Ben, " With great power comes great responsibility." Someone needed to stand up for what was right, whether those kids were guilty or innocent. A lot of people abused their power. And someone needed to stand up and tell them to shut up and sit down.

I don't know about that...
I'm all for people using their status for noble purposes beyond their actual expertise, like entertainers endorsing charities and all, but there's a limit. There's no reason to think K was any more knowledgeable about the truth than the 88, and sometimes celebrities abuse that same status and should have shut up. There was at least a little time between the breaking news of rape charges and when it should have been abundantly clear that they were bogus.

Look at the flak K caught for continuing to have reservations about how the JoPa situation was handled, too. Opinions on JoPa have recovered a bit since, but as far as PR is concerned, that was a gamble for K to express that.

Oh, hey, and since you brought up JoPa, Dattier, you do know you just contradicted yourself, right? Yeah, yeah, I know. It's another example of where an influential coach could have stepped out, spoken up, and made a positive difference. I know. It's just not so cut-and-dry, and where that's the case, I'm inclined to cut people some slack.

I agree with what you guys are saying. I am less talking about specifics related to the case than the basic concept of innocent until proven guilty and what seemed to me, as an outsider, some hate/agenda/ax to grind or whatever the hell it was driving the witch hunt and the self preservation of the throw them under the bus crowd. Just as any accuser has the right to be heard and initially taken seriously, so too does the accused. For a university administration and individual faculty members to act like they did is inexcusable. Not to be wrong. Anyone can be wrong/fooled. But the witch hunt/throw em under the bus stuff is the opposite of what any educational institution should stand for. I get the initial staying out of it by K and even the reluctance to publicly dis my employer.

Anyway, I am glad the truth came out and those boys/young men had/have a chance to move on. Also glad we stomped Va Tech today. But, it doesn't feel as good without Greenburg on the bench.
