I don’t want a car that gets stuck behind a biker that thinks they are cars.
So you’d hit the cyclist?

The Tesla ad is obnoxious fear mongering ********. But the two takeaways are (a) don’t do that for both the cyclist and driver and (b) there is no self-driving tech that could do better today because of sensor errors and/or software glitches, and the fact that a human can just take-over anyway at any time.

I use my loud engine to let cyclists know I’m coming up so they are aware, and will cross over the yellow lines briefly, when safe, giving plenty of space in case they fall or something. Might be rude if they ride out in the middle of the road, rather than keeping to the right, especially when they know there are cars waiting to pass. But it’s not a capital crime.

Let's see how these electric cars do during the hurricane evacuation, lmfao. Bumper to bumper traffic then add in electric cars clogging roadways with dead batteries. The gift that keeps on giving from your Liberal government.

That guy was riding the yellow line to prevent cars from passing. He was asking for iy.

I hear you. Still not a capital crime. I feel pretty sure you know this and don’t approve of hitting him with your car.

I’d be irritated but I’d just go around him when it was safe. If I hit, with a car or otherwise, everybody who was asking for it, I’d be in prison for life by now. I mostly need to be physically attacked to get violent.

Speaking of which, about a decade ago, I was out riding, keeping off to the side on the shoulder, and some guy coming the other way in a big Merc made eye contact with me then swerved way over towards me intentionally. No idea what he was thinking. Perhaps I just bring out the ******* in people. 😃

Anyway, he got up right next to me, going maybe 20-25, forcing me ride right along the curb. I reached out as he passed and hit his car with the bottom of a closed fist, denting his rear quarter panel. He wisely kept going. If he stopped and confronted me, I probably would’ve hurt him a little - I was pretty pissed off.

But I wouldn’t have killed the guy. And hitting someone on a bicycle, like the person purportedly did on the video (which might well have been staged by whatever jackass made the tweet) with a car is basically attempted murder.

Maybe the dickhead on the bike should stay to the right. I ride trails on my mountain bike, but when I am on roads, I am practically riding on the curb or in the grass, staying as far right as possible. Some of these Lance Armstrong wannabes, particularly those that ride in groups three or four abreast are a problem.

Agree he should be farther over, but that road has no shoulder.

Regardless, that's on the Volvo wagon driver that hit him.

I wonder if you'd feel the same way if an autonomous vehicle struck that cyclist.

Still can't wrap my head around the complacent attitude most have for the thousands of human caused deaths and serious injuries. Despite multiple hourly tragedies, there remains strong opposition to autonomous vehicles. Can the naysayers provide evidence that autonomous vehicles like Waymo or Cruise, or human supervised autonomous vehicles like Tesla FSD Beta are less safe? No. They can't. Their reasoning is based on fear, uncertainty and doubt, rather than evidence.

This technology will save lives and reduce the cost of transportation. Win, win. Humans are ****** drivers. Humans kill and injure one another on our roads. Stop being complacent to the status quo. We can do better. Attempting to retard this progress is criminal.

Perhaps you'd have an easier time understanding counterarguments if you stopped taking such extreme all-or-nothing positions and rewriting opposition into those same terms.

I haven't seen anyone come out completely opposed to autonomy. Most are less bullish than you (surpise! 🙄) and want to see it rolled out in a responsible way.

And this is in a thread of car fanatics who are actively interested in the latest vehicle tech ...wtf do you think the average Joe on the street thinks? It'll take time for people to accept electric drive tech, autonomy and other changes. You trying to shoehorn it down their throats with polarizing arguments isn't going to speed that up, at all.

The data suggests autonomy is being rolled out in a responsible way. If anyone has evidence to the contrary, I'd love to see.

Plenty of powerful entities are opposed to autonomy. Maybe you're not following. Senior Advisor to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for Safety had this to say:

Why would I be following tweets?

Also, that's not an entity or formal opposition to anything.
It's hard to argue against the "if you don't think like me you suck" mentality.

Also hard to argue with people who use tweets from strangers as evidence in any argument. Tweets from well-known and widely acknowledged experts in their field, not working from a biased agenda? Fine.

Anyway, seeing people advocate for hitting a cyclist who is obnoxiously blocking the road seems to lends support to arguments for better, more in depth, background checks for gun ownership and carry permits. I mean, jeez folks, running over people 'cause they're being obnoxious or thoughtless is pretty high up on the immorality scale.

I would feel exactly the same way. And I'm not advocating running over dickhead cyclists. But I freely lay on the horn when dickheads are blocking the road when they are dressed in their fruity little cycling outfits thinking that are in the Tour De France.

Should’ve passed him to get in front and slam on the brakes, especially if it was going up a hill.

You guys are all being unfair to the driver. Another human driver hits another pedestrian. So what. Happens all the time. Just the way it is.

What would really piss me off would be if a private corporation tried to do something to prevent these things from happening. That's a non starter.

Did I see a video of a Tesla mowing down a child mannequin?

Lycra roadies 😄

Have you been mtb long enough to remember that weird tension? Hiker v mtber, and now e-mtb vs mtb, are somewhat inevitable but road vs off-road cyclist always seemed silly.

OMG. I usually ride alone, but went with a buddy today. I'm fine with hikers and extremely respectful of them on the trails. I stop and pull off to the side. We got caught in a downpour today on the ride home and we were on the paved path to get home, and we came across two horses (who looked more sluggish than Excalibur), and we moved way over.

But then came an e-bike crushing down the trail at what was at least about 25-30 MPH. My buddy and I were going to clothesline that dickhead.

Why would electric cars have dead batteries on clogged roadways? They're not burning gas and not using the battery if they are stopped.

Those things are not going to help the sport.
Although, if I had to choose, I'd get rid of horses first.

Are you on MTBR forum? Ebike threads are basically their London broil or Karl Flood remembrance threads 😆

No, but I'm on mtbNJ forum, and not active. I waste all my free time here defending Kyle Flood and talking about lawns, electric vehicles and other things of interest.

Yeah, I spend much more time here, even though I like biking and similar better than watching football. Other forums get too hyper-focused on their single topic, whereas this one is delightfully ADD ... and more interesting because of it.
