Based on the most recent comments in the thread, some here think the current macroeconomic and geopolitical environment will only negatively impact Tesla.

I don't think EV adoption will be quite the uphill battle Akio Toyoda appears to think it will be. I'm repeating myself, but I think EVs are here to stay until replaced by something cleaner and more efficient (which will happen at some point).
But I also think it'll take longer than EV evangelists claim. And I think alternatives such as hybrids and potentially the efuel approach being tested out in motorsport will play a role for a long while.
The focus should be on measurable impacts to the environment rather than any particular automotive technology. Theories are all well and good. But unless we can measure the impact and see stuff working, it's going to be pretty hard to convince some people.
And, in the US at least, governments trying to force adoption of stuff is unlikely to survive across multiple administrations, both at the federal and state levels.
180 on the EV narrative in the span of a few weeks. We've gone from "the competition is coming" to "no one want an EV".
The best selling car in the world is an EV (Model Y). With interest rates skyrocketing, affordability is the issue, not demand. Tesla's price cuts were the death blow to legacy auto and their first attempts at EVs. They need to do better. Hopefully they will. Don't buy the spin.
I don't much care about Model Ys or Corollas (or who sells how much), so didn't want to look up more recent numbers (or verify the article's or your numbers). But as of July, according to this article, your statement doesn't appear to be true.
Perhaps you have different data or something changed substantially (articles says Corollas sold 75% more)?

Before this thread existed, I never once in my life knew or cared about how many vehicles of any particular type or brand were sold. I can't imagine why anybody but the people who sell them GAF.
I guess shareholders have an interest, if they're not long-term buy and hold investors. Although I own a fair amount of Tesla stock and I still couldn't care less about how many cars they sell.
I'm a car guy gear-head type. Totally into cars. But I'm into the driving of cars... into the experience while in the cars. Not sure what label to apply to people who hang on the latest car sales figures. But neither "car guy" nor "gear head" would seem to apply.

Honda announces a hybrid Prelude concept car. I'm not crazy about the looks but glad to see the name come back. I had a '92 SI and loved that car. Drove it for 19 years.

Yes, but the demand is not as high as Tesla makes you think it is. No need to put all your eggs in basket. The company that can balance the transition with ICE, hybrid, EV will be the winner.

I think it would be more accurate to say the enormous supply influx has far exceeded a strong but not enormous demand.
But that is good for those that are looking to purchase an EV. Prices are coming down, and will likely come down a lot more.

Right? And they stated it with such self-assurance, such self-righteousness, such absolute certainty.
Never seems wise to be certain about anything, especially about the future.
Not to rub salt in their wounds, but I seem to recall speculating that, ultimately, the Toyota execs might come out looking pretty smart with their measured approach to adoption. Of course, it's still early days and things will change around a bunch over the next 5-10 years, let alone in the next 50 years.
Who knows, perhaps Legacy Toyota will fade away to nothingness, vindicating the smug prognostications of Teslerati everywhere. Woo hoo!
