Some states are always going to be at the forefront of innovation - typically the West Coast states followed by the Northeast states. It's too early IMO to say what kinds of EVs midwesterners are going to buy. I wouldn't be surprised to see Elon's antics make some Trumpistanis more willing to purchase a Tesla, especially the Cybertruck.
I thought about this, briefly. I don't recall any manufacturer, besides Apple, who engendered the sort of religious cult worship that Tesla has done. Yes, there are always going to be fan boys of various brands of things. And some companies enjoyed periods of great popularity. But popularity isn't the same as worship.
Someone's preference for buying a Ford, for example, doesn't mean that someone thinks Fords will or even should dominate the auto industry. I've seen very few examples of that attitude towards auto brands. Deep loyalty, sure. Adoration, not so much.
When the subject is people, however, the cult worship thing is much more common. Artists (of all varieties) and politicians and so forth. I truly do not understand the mentality behind it. But then I've never understood why obtaining someone's signature is desirable (unless it's contract-related). Like book signing or whatever. I just don't get it. I'm apparently lacking the worship gene or whatever.
What possible reason would anybody with a model Y or Mach-E ever need to be on full power more than 5 seconds? These are not race cars and 5 seconds would take them both beyond legal speed limits or safety in virtually all circumstances.

He *may* have put much of his earnings from the sale of Paypal at risk. But I'd have to see the financial details to believe it. And we're not likely to see those details, I would think.
EVs and NASCAR do seem like they'd be diametrically opposed interests. I would think you're correct about EVs being very hard to find in the parking lots of most NASCAR races. They'll be some, but not very many.
The details of this story are old news. You doubting the facts of the story isn't news either. We'd get 5 paragraphs from you if someone posted the sky is blue.
The details are probably all people quoting him. Explain why I should believe him about such stuff? Do you believe Trump when he makes such self-serving proclamations?
It's weird that people just accept what some people say and then turn around and drop all skepticism when others say similar things.
The fact here is that you truly have no idea what actually happened, at least in terms of the degree to which Musk put himself in financial risk. If you think he didn't leave himself plenty to survive on should both businesses fail, then I have a bridge to sell you.

There are so many parts of the country they don’t give a flying F about Tesla and you’ll never find Tesla as the dominant brand in those states. Yet, the Teslarati will have everyone believe 50 state domination will occur. Just wait until loyal Ford and GM owners in God’s country finally make the leap to EVs. Ain’t gonna be Teslas in their driveways.
Insufficient range (for me).
I'm awaiting the Macan EV to see what it's range is. But I'm pretty sure it won't have enough range to consider. I think Rivian has the longest range SUV at the moment, but it's only around 300 miles. Not nearly enough.
Possibly, if it has similar range to the Air. Gotta see how the production model(s) turn out.
But 500 miles is a soft target for range for me, and the Air has that apparently. I might compromise a bit on the range (~450 maybe) if other factors (e.g. interior comfort) are compelling enough.
I just spent a week at Disney World, and the amount of Tesla's especially the Model S version that park at the charging spots and don't charge is way too damn high. They aren't meant to be used as "super close" parking, they are meant to be used for people to charge their cars. I get Model S owners not wanting to pay for charging since they get it for free via the Tesla Super Chargers, but it's just as much of a dick move like the idiots who block access to chargers in their super lifted F-450 diesel pickups.
Seems like a reflection of the Tesla owner population.

People actually do that? That's definitely a dick move. I'm surprised they don't wind up getting their cars keyed doing that.
Here's the thing, all they need to do is just put the plug in the car to give the illusion it's being charged. They are too lazy to even feign the disguise of using the charging service. If they did that you wouldn't know they aren't charging unless you go up and look at the charging screen itself.
Seems like a potential problem with the charging model. How do you keep people from doing that?
Does Tesla have a good leasing program? Avg pricing means a lot of people can’t afford it and some can afford 90k cars.
Well at a place like Disney don't put the charging spots closer to the entrance than handicap spots. A lot of people with electric cars park there just for the close proximity of the parking spots.
If they were in the middle or rear of the lot only people who need to legitimately charge their car would use them.
I just came back from Orlando. The Premium outlets on Vineland have four charging spaces. Only one was occupied by an EV.
I have a Mach E extended range on order and live in southeastern SC. Currently too few EV chargers off 95 on the drive to Orlando . We’ll be using my wife’s Rav 4
I wonder if they can solve the charging spaces issue by moving the chargers further back in the lot(s). I look forward to hearing how you like the Mach E.

Yeah, I can see Telsa owners sacrificing their ability to drive to power the grid in a crunch. How will they recharge?
You know me, my advice in these situations is always to sell the wife (and/or kids) and then do what you want.
