Me too. In particular, I'd like to see a way of keeping some ICE cars around while also not harming the environment. So I look forward to seeing what evolves.

People, not very long ago, used to say it's impossible that solar would ever be cost competitive. The great thing about technology is that it advances regardless of what people's preconceived beliefs might be.
Synthetic fuels is a very broad term. Who could possibly know what might occur over the next decade?
Rather than get your panties in a bunch because I typed the word "impossible", take a minute to actually think about it. Logistics. This is an easy one.

No one ever said it was for mass consumption. Porsche wants to do it to be able to keep their cars, including their classics on the road. ExxonMobil has signed on to be a distributor. Pretty sure they know about the logistics of moving fuel around the globe.
The Rivian truck looks really sharp. I wish them luck. Rivian also has a contract with Amazon for electric delivery vans.

Really good read about battery recycling, domestic battery production, and global supply chain. Great to see a US company taking the initiative to close the loop between battery cell manufacturing and recycling. We're going to see more and more of these businesses in the future. Exponential growth!

Seems Porsche are continuing their long tradition of greatly understating the performance of their vehicles. The Taycan being one of two EVs that outperform both the EPA range estimates and the Porsche range specs.
The only other car, so far, to exceed it’s EPA range estimate is the Audi e-Tron Sportback.

I really hope this company succeeds. There is a real need for meaningful battery recycling.
That's not the point. Under promise and over deliver is the point.
I favor the car with the longer range.
Porsche: We under promise, but we also under deliver.
Better than calling something "Full Self Driving" and have this happen. Over promise, under deliver. Nothing like having people beta test on public roads with unsuspecting pedestrians and motorists around.
If I was an Audi fan, I wouldn't be boasting about "over delivering". The only thing the e-Tron boasts is inefficiency. That battery pack is colossal, and still can't hit 300 miles.

You keep beating the same drum and still no incidents to report with the beta testers. Almost a full year of testing on real roads. Meanwhile, tens of thousands of people die every year from cars driven by humans.
Autonomous driving will save lives. Millions of lives. We should be encouraging companies to accelerate their efforts to reach autonomy. Autonomous cars can see 360 degrees, they don't get distracted, they don't fall asleep, they don't get drunk.
AI must be trained in the real world. That's the only way to do it, and it's working. Any risk associated with the process is worth it because at the end of the day, autonomy will save lives.

Yes, the Porsche and Audi EV platform tech is shared between them, and if I’m not mistaken, with VW as well. Which would partially explain the similar EPA estimate errors.

That’s about as relevant to my post as me pointing out that the Tesla Model S has lower range than my old GMC Suburban.
By the way, when out driving early last Sunday, I blew the doors off an overly aggressive Model S, first on acceleration and then again through some high speed sweepers. Thought they were supposed to be fast? Instead, the dude got himself embarrassed twice and burned up a bunch of his energy.
And I had to shift manually. All he had to do was steer, which he did quite poorly in the sweepers. Sad.
The Tesla driver could also be incompetent.. he didn't have the balls to drop the hammer and then take on twisting road aggressively.

Nearly 1 year of beta testing and no injuries/deaths to report. Meanwhile, 3,000 people will die on the roads today. Perhaps you're out of touch and lucky enough to have never lost someone due to an accident, or maybe you're some sicko who is secretly wishing for a beta tester to kill someone.

The other driver tried hard and was pissed off and embarrassed. So I slowed up into the curves to allow him to try again. And then embarrassed him even more. In the acceleration part, maybe he’d been doing too many launches previously or something, and the battery/motor overheated or whatever causes the non-repeatability of performance that has been reported. But it wasn’t close and, on paper, it should’ve been closer.
In the curves it takes skill, light weight, mechanical grip and downforce and I had advantages in all those categories - so on paper him getting embarrassed again was expected.

There was no chance at all an ordinary model S was gonna hang with me in curves. On paper, it should be bit faster 0-60 or in a quarter mile (I’ll beat it 10 times out of 10 to 200 though LOL). But for whatever reason, this particular car just wasn’t performing at it’s peak.
It was probably slowed by the requirement it genuflect towards Eli seven times a day.
