Slightly new body?

Dislikes: WTF is with the giant single wiper blade? When asked on Twitter about it, Elon replied "there is no easy solution". Tesla did file a patent to use lasers as windshield wipers. We'll have to see..

If you really believe that climate science can accurately determine world wide temperatures by one half of a degree ( +/- .5 C) over a period of 2000 years as your little chart shows then it is you who are embarrassing yourself. It is sheep science followers like you that force me to drink my soda through a disintegrating paper straw because after all those plastic straws were killing the turtles.

The best political break GM ever got was the retention of tax attributes in the 2008-9 bankruptcy bailout and they didn't have to lift a finger. UAW said leave it to us.

It's right out of the hugely popular game to Millennials, Halo. The traditional buyers of F-150s et al from the Boomer and GenX crowd were not considered. They were understandably deemed too loyal to their existing makers and models.
I've taught Millennials and GenZers for a combined 31 years now in a Jersey suburb and as I've kept in touch with many, their interest in the CT (and Teslas in general) is huge.

You're kind of a classic idiot, aren't you? You don't understand how things work, so you just deny their existence or validity.

There are several ways of determining historical temperatures. When you use multiple techniques you can triangulate your way into a highly accurate representation. You should spend some time learning stuff - you might be surprised how enjoyable it is to not be stupid.

Or not. You be you, as the kids like to say. We'll all just be happy that we're not you.

Such a typical response. Like a religion - "your" position on climate change is the only possibility. So you can't tolerate anyone who sees things slightly different and as expected resort to name calling. I am done arguing with a completely close minded person who really believes they are open minded and enlightened.

Gov forced GM to reinvent itself. No executives associated with the bankruptcy made it through it. Although no doubt they left with bags of our tax and shareholder dollars. One of the perks of being a big corporate executive. That's just the way the world revolves.

Anyway, while I am not so naive to think there is no monkey business, the company operates better now than before the bankruptcy.

I was referring to the multibillion dollar net operating loss carryforward the company was allowed to retain which is normally forfeited as part of the bankruptcy process.

There's plenty of vids of FSD Beta performing flawlessly too.

2 of Taylor's claims are bs. The Tesla was indeed yielding for the pedestrian. "Could not take control" is bs too. The blue steering wheel icon disappeared when the warning came on the screen, which means the system is disengaged and the driver has control.

But why is Tesla allowed to do testing with untrained testers on public roads? Calling it a beta but releasing it into production in the public domain is irresponsible.

Yeah, I heard you the first 10 times. Here's my response which I've also said 10 times. I don't think we'll change each other's mind

Autonomous vehicles will save countless lives. An enormous amount of data is needed for neural net training. Tesla's approach is the only way expedite this process. Tesla hand picks beta testers based on their safe driving record and driver safety score. 14 months of beta testing has resulted in zero serious injuries or fatalities. Any regulatory effort to retard Tesla's approach will cost people their lives.

We've become accustomed and desensitized to people dying on our roads. It doesn't have to be this way.

Here's where you go wrong in your approach (not presuming that you care).

1) is hyperbole and absurd. It makes people like me (and I suspect @mildone and others who have similar wiring) immediately shut down and ignore the rest of what you're saying.

2) is entirely parochial and not consistent with overall understanding of how these things ultimately work. You're presupposing some great, big, neural net in the sky that Tesla can leverage for its customers and assuming no other inputs to the system (and no standardization), thus lending an advantage to your brand.

In point of fact, as we've discussed here, repeatedly, when full autonomy rolls out that's not how it's going to work. Cars will provide input data, yes. But they will also provide data to each other (V2V) and communicate with an active roadway infrastructure which will provide condition-related updates in real time (V2I). What it won't be is a bunch of Teslas driving around, linked solely to the Great Tesla Cloud, to the exclusion of all else. There will be standards - in fact, there already are. And once they're fully adopted at the federal level and begin to roll out, everyone - even Tesla - will comply.

This is exactly what Tesla is attempting to develop right now. How successful they will be remains to be seen but I would not bet against them. It's funny that you use the phrase 'neural net in the sky' because...

You still haven't answered why this is ethically sound and not potentially illegal. "For the greater good" has been used to justify a lot of horrifying things... being dismissive about the ethics and legality is just you being blinded by your love of Tesla.

Wow. Illegal? Please provide evidence that fsd beta is a hazard to the general public. I hope you realize that once laws are implemented, they tend to be forever. What's next, thought crime?

Funny thing is, outside this thread, I never give the guy any thought at all.

I know the whole Person of the Year thing isn't about good or bad and all, but I'd rather see it go to whomever was in charge of whichever COVID vaccine is saving the most lives, or to all the front-line medical workers battling to keep COVID patients alive in the emergency rooms and ICUS out there. Something a bit more humanitarian like that.

OTOH, with the whole space exploration thing ultimately being mankind's only hope for long term survival, Musk, along with the other space exploration CEOs, should get a lot of credit for their efforts. And solving power issues is probably going to be a big factor in space exploration, along with a host of other thorny problems.

Yeah, you’re right. What would Toyota know about selling cars? They only sold almost 10M cars in 2020 and basically pioneered hybrid tech. I’m sure they’ll disappear in 10 years along with Ford, GM, Nissan, etc. because nobody other than Elon in the entire world can figure out how to make/sell EVs.
