I was watching Jimmy Fallon and had to look these guys up to make sure they were real.

Dick Pole and Peter La Cock.

Dick Pole played for the Boston Red Sox and Seattle Mariners and Peter La Cock played for the Chicago Cubs and Kansas City Royals

What were their parents thinking?

I score keep slow pitch softball. Every year i get to score keep and announce the seniors men's national soft ball tourney in Burlington, N.C. They are from 50 years and up and some are in their late 70's and early 80's that play. There classed by age. There is a player named Dick Devine. When the coach gave me the line up I questioned the name and ask that Dick come to me to confirm it which he did. I smiled every time he came up and I announced now batting Dick Devine. OFC

Not Duke related or sports related, but I feel this poor guy deserves a shout out. When I worked in a restaurant, we were given a table chit when we got seated that had the guests name and special notes on it. Last name followed by first name. I received a table chit once that had the name "Ting, Shi" on it. I thought there was no way this guy's name was Shi Ting. After my first appearance at the table, it was confirmed that his name was in fact that. The entire dinner, my coworkers and I kept saying how he was one "t" away from a catastrophe. When it came time to pay for his meal, he paid with a credit card. Believe it or not, he handed me a credit card with the name "Shi T. Ting" on it. Took everything in me not to tell him to at least take off his middle initial on his card. Took even more in me not to laugh when I returned his card.

Not an athletes name but was still pretty funny to me. Several years ago I was making a sales call on a textile manufacturing plant and the Maintenance Supervisors name was Harry Dick. I told the Receptionist in a somewhat subdued voice who I wanted to see and she announced over the intercom that Harry Dick had a visitor in the front Lobby. After a few minuted without hearing from Harry she says again into the intercom " I need Harry Dick in the Lobby ASAP".

I know I must have turned two shades of red.

I went to high school with a guy named Mike Hunt. It was great when they called him to the office on occasion. " Mike Hunt come to the office. Mike Hunt come to the office please." OFC

Went to school with a girl whose dad's name was Ben Dover. Do parents not think about how these names will work out?

Ok, since it's got away from athletes and people we really know I have a story and every time I tell it people just roll and it is a true story. Please read it out. I worked 15 years for Lowe's Home Improvement. We had a guy transfer in from another store who also had a lot of years in with the company. I'm going to have to paraphrase most of this because it's been over 20 years since this conversation took place. He walks up to me and says this " I'm Phil Fagg and I am the company Fagg. I come from a long line of Faggs. My daddy is a Fagg, my grandpa was a Fagg. I got a couple of sons and they are Faggs. I'm proud to be a Fagg. I hope my boys have a few Faggs. Each year I go to the Fagg reunion and there are Faggs all over the place. He was a great guy with a wonderful sense of humor. He told me this was the best way to go ahead and get all the jokes covered. I often wonder how he is doing and just how many new little Faggs are running around. OFC

This isn't sports related either but when I was a young, I made more than my fair share of prank phone calls. I would pick random names out of the phone book and two of the funniest that I found were BJ Butts and Ben Dover, which ironically smashmouth5 actually knew someone by that same name lol

Dick Trickle and Rusty Kuntz were the first two who came to mind.

I like those pictures of players sitting beside each other on the bench where their last names on the backs of their jerseys become something funny or dirty, etc. Or wedding announcements like that. Like this:

or that:

One year at this school where I used to work, the new faculty members had to stand up and introduce themselves. This veteran teacher who had just transferred in stood up, said her name was something "Friskie," and then she said it was the first time she had felt so comfortable giving her name because... and the next lady stood up and introduced herself as "____ Bimbo." Ms. Friskie and Ms. Bimbo. Awesome. You have to have a pretty good sense of humor to survive with names like that. Get tough or die, Sue, my son.
